"Wall Street Cowboy" is a 1939 Roy Rogers Movie - before he met and married Dale Evans(1947), got "Bullet" his dog, or sang "Happy Trails To you". However Gabby Hayes is there for laughs and although the story is stiff and somewhat odd, it should give the 1950's generation warm feelings and memories of the innocent good old days. I remember watching Roy on TV in these old movies through most of my teen years. He was a good guy in the white hat.

This story tells about the Roy Rogers Ranch (Circle R) falling on hard times. Roy is doing his best to pay high interest rates and mortgage to a local loan shark. The plot thickens when valuable metals are found on his ranch and he goes to Wall Street to raise more cash fast. Lots of shooting (very little blood) and one cowboy song keep this fledgling Western afloat.

Republic Pictures presents "WALL STREET COWBOY" (6 August 1939) (66 mins/B&W) (Fully Restored/Dolby Digitally Remastered) --- Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye) moved to California in 1930, at the age of 18 --- played in such musical groups as The Hollywood Hillbillies, Rocky Mountaineers, Texas Outlaws and his own group, the International Cowboys --- In 1934 he formed a group with Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer called "Sons of the Pioneers" --- While in that group he was known as Leonard Slye, then Dick Weston and finally Roy Rogers --- Their songs included "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" --- They first appeared in the western "Rhythm on the Range" (1936), starring Bing Crosby --- In 1937 Roy went solo and made his first starring film in 1938, "Under Western Stars" (1938) --- He made almost 100 films --- then came television, "The Roy Rogers Show" (1951) ran on CBS from October 1951 through September 1964.

Our story line and plot, Molybdenum is a hard, gray metallic element used to toughen alloy steels and soften tungsten alloy. It is also used in fertilizers, dyes and enamels --- Like the opening song says, Roy, Gabby and Ray Hatton are a happy go lucky bunch of punchers in this quick paced story that moves West to New York and back again to the Circle R to have Roy Rogers save his ranch from a gang of would be land grabbers --- The badmen are after the molybdenum found at Skeleton Canyon on Roy's property. The story is one of those modern Westerns where technology competes with the cowboy life, as in an early scene when the good guy trio block the road of a passing car with their herd of cattle --- Gabby and Ray Hatton share a fair amount of screen time here with Roy, usually in some kind of a dust up between themselves but always in a good natured way --- They're at their best when they start a brawl at a night club to divert attention from Roy, who has his share of trouble in the picture.

I enjoyed this movie and am sure that everyone else that likes Roy Rogers as much as I do. This is a must-have for all fans. I, Ella Lumley purchased this dvd from Amazon.com., very reasonable and fast.
