This doorway is from Hertford House in Manchester Square, London; a large house which contains an important collection of art, assembled by the Wallace family. Within the beautiful rooms are displayed French paintings, furniture, wood carvings and medieval armour. It is a place where curators come to study.
This elegant doorway is from the courtyard of the house and uses silk to create a screen between the outside and inside of the building. The lead urns stand forward of the door, the eye guided through the silk to daylight beyond.
This is one of a series of fine Architectural models made by world-renowned artist, Timothy Richards. These models are made with plaster and other traditional construction materials including lead, acid-etched brass, glass, copper and gold leaf. Each model is individually hand-made in Timothy's studio and worskhop in Bath in England.
