Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Composer Julian Nott has been associated with Wallace and Gromit since their beginning in short films, so of course his signature theme for the duo pops up in the Were-Rabbit soundtrack (try figuring out how many times Nott sneaks it in). This time around, he gets a much bigger orchestra, which perhaps explains the involvement of Dreamworks go-to scorer Hans Zimmer as producer, and also the musical contributions from Rupert Gregson-Williams, James Michael Dooley, Lorne Balfe, and Alastair King. Unlike Wallace and Gromit themselves, who escaped the transfer from short to feature-length film unscathed, Nott's music has lost a bit of its intimate, veddy British charm in the process. This is most obvious in "actiony" tracks like the generic-sounding "Fire Up the Bun-Vac." Sometimes, bigger isn't better. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking CD, Gromit October 12, 2005
Format:Audio CD
It seems like I have been waiting for a W&G film forever. Why, You may ask? Because I have been chomping at the bit for a Wallace and Gromit CD!

It was well worth the Wait! Every cue on this album is Golden! My only complaint is why did Hans Zimmer have to get involved? He seems to take Mr. Nott's thunder away from him! And why did they need some other Composers as well? As evident in the classic shorts, Nott is a very accomplished composer. Maybe He needed some assistance for an exhausting work load. Oh well.

Despite the above gripes,I think this is one of the best soundtracks in years. I especially like "Fire up the Bunvac", "Brainwash and Go", "A Big Trap", and "Dogfight", not to mention the closing cue, "Wallace and Gromit", which is of course the wonderful and completely catchy theme from the aforementioned shorts. Indeed, my Dad was humming that tune for three days after seeing the film!

I heartily recommend this album as well as the movie. Nicely Done!

5.0 out of 5 stars SMASHING! October 17, 2005
Format:Audio CD
What a wonderful gift to the world: Wallace and Gromit. Those of us who have been fans for years have known this for a while. Know the whole world will know. The films is a blast. The soundtrack brings that blast home (well, at least until the DVD comes out; and, even then it'll still be great to wash the dishes or mop the floors to this CD). The music brings back all the fun of the film. I can't help comparing this CD to the last animated film soundtrack CD I bought: The Incredibles. While the music for the Incredibles was good, it was terribly derivative, borrowing too freely and too often from the Bond movies. Nott has not (no pun intended) fallen into that trap (again, no pun intended . . . see the film). This music is fresh and original . . . of course, the Wallace and Gromit theme insinuates itself several times, but we wouldn't want it any other way. Buy this soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expresses the Movie Perfectly! November 7, 2005
By Marcus
Format:Audio CD
I saw this movie on opening night and I loved it. I am a big fan of British humor. The music in the film is delightful! Each piece matches the scene it corresponds with. This is a great cd (and movie) to check out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A SUPERB PIECE OF BRITISH CULTURE March 16, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I donn't know if cd's are getting destroyed when you listen to them frequently (as the plder vinyl records did).If so,i am afraid i have to buy an additional copy of this O.S.T as i listen to this several times a day!

We are talking about a brilliant main theme (we were familiar with this from the three previous short films of WALLACE & GROMIT-A close shave,The wrong trousers,A Grand day out). But the whole O.S.T. consists of "catching" melodies, that make you want listen to the cd again and again.

It is one of the few times that music is "getting married" so succesfully with the movie.

A brilliant piece of British culture.
