5.0 out of 5 stars The Second Time Around
I just bought my second Jimi. The first was a Christmas gift 4 years ago. I used to be one of those guys that kept everything in his wallet and had a huge butt bulge because of it. The Jimi takes care of that. I've cut down the list of things I carry around with me to just the things I actually need. I get compliments all the time from cashiers, etc. when they see...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and bulky

Not at all what I expected. The Jimi's about the size of a deck of playing cards, larger than a normal wallet and much larger than anything I'd call "minimal"

Feels and looks like a cheap plastic box. Uses bending plastic as a hinge and flexing plastic to lock it closed. Feels like either or both could break at any time.

Inside, there...

I just bought my second Jimi. The first was a Christmas gift 4 years ago. I used to be one of those guys that kept everything in his wallet and had a huge butt bulge because of it. The Jimi takes care of that. I've cut down the list of things I carry around with me to just the things I actually need. I get compliments all the time from cashiers, etc. when they see it.

The only reason I'm getting a new one is the plastic is beginning to wear a bit. But, with 4 years of straight use, I'm not willing to really count that as an issue with the wallet itself.

This is the perfect wallet for me.

Feels and looks like a cheap plastic box. Uses bending plastic as a hinge and flexing plastic to lock it closed. Feels like either or both could break at any time.

Inside, there are three additional (though removable) layers of plastic, severely limiting the capacity.

I was planning on moving up from a simple money clip (held 4 cards plus cash) but don't get any more storage in this wallet for about 3x the pocket space.

5.0 out of 5 stars GR8 for CYCLING and around town shopping, January 2, 2010

I purchased this directly from 'Mr. Smith', in 2008, and also the lanyard, which is very helpful, because without it you have to dig up your own means to have it dangle around your neck! Mainly I use it for cycling, in one of the pockets of my Oakley hydration pack, with the lanyard hanging out in case of emergency, since it carries my vital papers; 2 medical cards and emergency contact card, plus a credit card for stopping along the way for a bite to eat or emergency bike repair.

Go by what the directions say - only carry what it can hold, because if you stuff it with more than it can take, the inside top will never stay on or you will stress the plastic and it could break. It's made for minimal use, so you should not be stuffing it with things you normally carry in your wallet, like an arsenal of pictures or fifty credit cards! I carry $5 and a few $1's, in additional to the vital papers and 1 credit card. (I don't take my driver's license cycling)

I purchased the orange color for visibility. Another plus, it's transparent. For me, in case of an emergency, the medical card is facing out. I had such an experience, hit by a car while cycling and it was a cinch for the EMT's and police to find my vital information, whereas I was not able to tell them where to look!

Bought one and it was kind of hard to open and close, and after two days of use the snap for the opening broke. If it had been an expensive item, I would be returning it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still the best, in spite of limitations, August 7, 2010

I'm on my fourth of these, simply because it's so practical compared to bulging traditional wallets. The plastic hinges tend to wear down, and I've even had the bottom snap off on one... But I see it as my fault for trying to force more cash than what it's designed for. It would be great if they found a way to make these more durable - maybe actual hinges that snap off but don't break if you try to force them?

I wanted a wallet to carry my drivers license, a credit card, and a couple bucks while at work. I found this product on the web and thought it would fit my needs. Unfortunately, the thin plastic hinge started wearing rather quickly. yesterday, it fell out of my pocket and the hinge cover part completely broke off. i'll be looking for something similar, yet tougher

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted to love this, but too many limitations, July 18, 2010

Got a green one and love the look. Holds enough cards and ID for going out, but not as an everyday wallet. By the time I put in my health insurance card, AAA card, ID, work access card and ATM card I'm down to maybe one credit card. It also has room for only about $100 in twenties, so when you start to get change it will have to stay loose in your pocket. I wish they had made it big enough to hold single folded bills.
The other issue is that it is front pocket carry only. It way too stiff to have in you back pocket and sit down. I am back to using a leather "weekend" wallet that holds more and molds to your shape when you sit. Its the same thickness, but slightly larger dimensions and much more comfortable.
If you don't need to carry much and will carry this only in your front pocket, this is fine- otherwise there are much better solutions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lasted over 4 years now, still going strong, July 11, 2010

When I received this, I expected the plastic folds to give way in no time. To my surprise, after more than 4 years of hard use, it shows no sign of breaking. I've also had no trouble opening and closing it even in the beginning. It's designed to be a front pocket wallet - I don't imagine it'll be very comfortable when used in the back pocket.

This wallet really helps you decide what you really need. The biggest drawback of this wallet is the inability to hold more than 3 or 4 notes, so I try to avoid cash whenever possible. I have my driver's license on one of the sides facing out, so that I can just show my wallet when I need to show my ID. It's definitely not for everyone, but I haven't found a better wallet for my needs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea but the practical side does not hold up!, June 14, 2010

I've purchased four of these wallets over the past couple of years. I thought this was such a neat idea that I wanted to share with family so two were given as gifts. At a little less than a year my own first one gave out -- the clip that is supposed to hold it all together broke off. After all, when you are continually folding this thin plastic back and forth to open and close, it is going to wear out. And it did. And it did again with the second one that I put into personal use. While it is relatively inexpensive, I've tired of wasting my money and went back to my tri-fold wallet that I have had for years. It is a good idea but in practicality a waste of money for the long run.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skip It, April 17, 2010
This review is from: Jimi Wallet-100% Recycled Plastic Wallet Compact & Water Resistant- See All Colors (Misc.)
I had high hopes for this unique wallet but it let me down. The plastic clip which holds the credit cards snapped loose almost every time I tried to retrieve a card. The way the wallet stacks the cards makes it possible to only see the top card, turning purchasing items into credit card Russian-Roulette. Inevitably, when I did find the correct card, the holder would snap off, leaving me to pick up the contents of the wallet off the floor.

If you are looking for an ultra-minimalist wallet or something to just store business cards, then this may be your thing. But for an everyday wallet, it will be drive you to insanity.
