5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide!
This pocket sized guide is full of "in the know" knowledge of the coolest bars, restaurants and stores in New York City. You won't find the nitty gritty details about how to get cheap tickets to The Little Mermaid, because this book assumes you are cooler than your average tourist. Added bonus- it has a handy dandy fold-out front cover landscape photograph of the city and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Comprehensive; Outdated
This guide is probably not useful for the frugal traveler. Its recommendations are geared toward to those seeking hip (and expensive) hotels, restaurants, and shopping. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not Comprehensive; Outdated, October 12, 2009
This review is from: Wallpaper City Guide: New York 2008 (Wallpaper City Guides) (Paperback)
This guide is probably not useful for the frugal traveler. Its recommendations are geared toward to those seeking hip (and expensive) hotels, restaurants, and shopping. Most, if not all, of the restaurants featured are upscale dining establishments ($50 to $100+ per-person dinners), and some listings are outdated. For example, the lounge "Socialista" is closed and its website is not accessible, the restaurant "Fiamma" is closed, and the listed "Hotel QT" has been renamed "Room Mate Grace Hotel". The suggested hotels, like the restaurants, are also fairly expensive, albeit luxurious.

I would purchase this guide only as an addition to another, more comprehensive guide on NYC.

You won't find the nitty gritty details about how to get cheap tickets to The Little Mermaid, because this book assumes you are cooler than your average tourist. Added bonus- it has a handy dandy fold-out front cover landscape photograph of the city and points out landmark buildings and bridges, so you can easily orient yourself in the city without looking like a tourist. Plus its smaller than your average paperback copy of "Bright Lights, Big City" so you can carry it with you on your visit without needing to pay a visit to the chiropractor.
