5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Wall Project Book w/Glorious Photos, December 3, 2005
This review is from: Walls That Wow: 75 Ideas for Exciting Room Makeovers (Paperback)
This book has great ideas and step-by-step photographs to create easy wall treatments using various paint techniques. There is a section that also includes doing murals using various techniques.

When I saw the book was by the editors of Country Sampler Decorating Ideas I was skeptical (not a big country decor fan). They proved me wrong. The majority of the projects were fantastic, fun and work in many deorating styles.

"Quick-Hit projects," address simpler techniques that don't really require step by step instructions. I have to say I was a little skeptical, but looking at the picture of the project, then reading the instructions of how to create the look really worked. The editors were right, not all techniques require a step by step.

A few of my favorite techniques are:
-Graduated wall that looks like a wallcolor wash, beautiful (pg 14)
-Stone Age wall - not sure why it's called that. It's an unusual treatment that they have layered with a wallpaper border. It actually looks like wallpaper, but does not look like a stone wall at all. It's beautiful too and has a "villa" feel. (pg 18)
-Terry Cloth Tiles was really cute and seem quite easy and definitely a look I had not seen before. It was done on a bathroom wall and was quite gorgeous. This was a Quik Hit Project (see above). (pg 32)
-Trick Brick Wall - Their technique for this was one I had not seen before. In fact, I plan on trying this one in a room I want to have a Tuscany villa feel. I will use a different color palette to achieve the villa feel. (pg 76)

A few projects I did not care for (they just weren't my personal taste):
---Plaster Pretender that shows how to apply paint to look like a plaster finish. I think the technique looks cool but the color choices for the wall were not for me. I could see it in more with earthy tones that would give it a warmer feel. (pg 30)
---Break the Mold. The background technique was really nice and I would do it, but I am not a big fan of gluing 3-dimensional molds to the wall, but it might be a look that others might enjoy (pg 70)

I could go on and on about the great projects in this book, but I don't want to list every page. LOL This is definitely a book to buy for your library. Most of the techniques are beautiful and seem simple to execute. I like gorgeous but uncomplicated techniques that won't take a week to complete! Very important with my limited time.
