Amazon.com Review

If you find yourself humming "It's a Small World" and puzzling over Epcot's giant geosphere, it may be time to pack your bags and head for sunny Orlando. Rita Aero's Walt Disney World for Adults and Families, Too! is a worthy companion for those who want a little help planning the trip. Although it lacks the Disney graphics and colorful appearance of Birnbaum's Walt Disney World, this guide is well suited, as it claims, for adults planning to vacation in the Magic Kingdom and its accompanying parks. Icons designate which restaurants, hotels, and events are ideal for large groups or families, and which will set cupid's arrow in motion. Other distinguishing features include a number of at-a-glance maps, a companion Web site with frequent updates, and a stash of discount coupons in the back of the book.

Attractions are ranked by stars for overall quality--one to four, with four being the best--and probable appeal is determined by letter according to "Emotional Age Group": Adults, Teens, Children, and the Young at Heart. (You can still feel good about riding the whirling teacups, though, because "emotional age is determined by your mood, your traveling companions, and your personality.") The Magic Eye Theater in Epcot's Future World, for example, is marked with four stars and "ATC." The 3-D show, derived from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, has an appropriate Disney twist: "the audience is accidentally reduced to the size of insects, experiencing a rush of harrowing and thrilling mayhem ... effects are enhanced by exceptional sound, motion, visual, and sensory effects." Restaurants, resort accommodations, and off-site hotels are given equally thorough treatment. The full-page write-up on Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort details the ambience, rates, amenities, restaurants, recreation, features, drawbacks, and more. As with most things, you get what you pay for. This upscale resort hotel earns four stars across the board--for atmosphere, service, freshness, and vacation value--but prices begin in the $300-$400 range for a standard room and go up from there. There are plenty of options for budget-conscious travelers, too, and opportunities to save money are pinpointed in every section. Now if you can just get that darn tune out of your head....

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL the BEST of the BEST!, February 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Walt Disney World for Adults: The Original Guide for Grownups (Rita Aero's Walt Disney World for Adults) (Paperback)
This is the book that has it all. Resorts, Restaurants, Parks, Attractions, Night Clubs, Sports, Kids, Family, Groups, Discounts, Charts, Ratings, Reviews, Tips, Tricks, Secrets, etc, etc.

The information in this edition is still fresher and more accurate than any 1999 guidebook, and I should know, I visit WDW at least four times per year. Other guidebooks are just repackaged every year with a new cover.

Note: I found the Animal Kingdom chapter in this edition to be a bit weak, but I found marvelous AK information on the book's website.

This is the only book to have ever included useful coupons, but they expired recently. The book's website has lots of good electronic coupons in the Readers' Clubhouse. The clubhouse has excellent information and wonderful community! I saved $768 last trip. NO other guidebook (and I have them all) can match the quality of Rita Aero's work, and no other major guidebook has a website or a supporting author. This one is a MUST HAVE!

Thanks for the magical vacations, Rita!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for families., March 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Walt Disney World for Adults: The Original Guide for Grownups (Rita Aero's Walt Disney World for Adults) (Paperback)
After being disappointed by other guidebooks, I finally bought Aero's book and was amazed by the wealth of planning insight. This book is nothing short of empowerment for family vacation planning. For the first time we enjoyed a vacation where we all equally loved the hotel, restaurants, and rides. This book is a vacation saver.
