Excellent Disney Book,
By seml "seml" (Madison, WI USA) - See all my reviews

We are planning our trip to Disney and got a few travel guides. This was by far one of the best if you will be traveling with kids. While the book does include a lot of opinion, there is also a lot of great factual information regarding activities, events, restaurants and more. The book talks about getting to Disney, detailed information about Disney Resorts (it does have a on-property bias), and then each of the main parks is broken out and a there is a great chapter on dining options. The information in this book is the most current that I have found in any of our books. My only "complaint" is that it doesn't include any times for anything. While times do change, it would have been nice to have a general idea by season of what the normal hours have been for the parks and meal periods. Finally, the book provides touring plans for each of the parks. One plan is w/out kids and one is w/kids. The plans give you an idea of what attractions to hit when to avoid the longest lines. Overall, an excellent Disney Vacation Guide.

Just changed the year on the cover,

This review is from: Walt Disney World with Kids, 2004: Including Disney Cruise Line, Universal Orlando, and Islands of Adventure (Travel with Kids) (Paperback)
I bought this same book's 2002 edition as we were to travel to Disney then. Something came up & we couldn't go, so we are going this year. I bought the 2004 edition expecting some updates. When I compared them side by side, they were exactly the same, even down to the page numbers the chapters started on. I think to just change the year on the cover is misleading. The info in the book is good but I returned the 2004 edition and will just use the 2002.

Disney and kids,

I did not find this book to be of great assistance. I found much more helpful information on the web. Allearsnet.com and magictrips.com were of particular help.

I recently went to Disney World with my three young children, m sister, and her two kids. We never would have made it without this guide. The author gives good tips on which resort to choose and this alone was worth a lot to us. Since the children on the trip ranged in age from 1 to 12 we also depended heavily on the ride ratings in terms of what age group each ride was geared to and how scary it was. I found the author's descriptions and advice to be accurate and she saved us from scaring the younger kids to death on some rides that are really better suited for those 8 and up. Finally, the advice on general touring was very helpful. You can tell that the writer has children of her own and is writing from the point of view of a mother. Our other guide was focused on an approach of "You can do it all" but if we had tried to folow their touring plans with 5 kids I think we would have been either dead from exhaustion or just miserable. This book has a realistic, sane approach on how to choose the best rides and shows for each family.

The author really understands what it's like to travel with children. Great resource for anyone visiting Dinsey with kids to know how to make the most of your time there. Don't leave home with out reading this book. You'll know how to get the most out of it for your kids - and yourself!

We found this book invaluable for our trip to WDW this summer! The tips are downright priceless, like using Goofy's Barnstormer roller coaster as a test to see if your child can handle Big Thunder Mountain. On the author's advice, we allowed ourselves to split up so that my older son and my husband rode Space Mountain and Splash Mountain first thing in the morning, while my daughter and I hung out in Toon Town and Fantasyland before the crowds were too bad. We saved a lot of time and avoided the super long lines of the afternoon.

The Best Yet!,

There are many really great books out describing WDW, and this is certainly one of them. However, the reason I rank this one so highly is because it is the only one that is available for Universal Orlando. I have never been to Universal before and didn't have too much time to waste on my recent vacation. This guide allowed me to completely plan my visit so that I could maximize our time and not exhaust my family's energy or fun levels. We also visited WDW, and it was nice to have one book for two excellent vacation sites.

A wonderful book to use when traveling to WDW, especially when travling with small children. Wiley's time saving tips and advice on how to keep kids refreshed and ready for the rest of the day was invaluable. I will deffinatly use her book in the future!

A must have,

This book is excellent and a must have for anyone traveling to Disney World with Kids. We just came back from Disney World and our trip would not have been as good without this book. The charts talking about the scare factor of certain rides and the ages they are appropriate for were right on. We would read the section in book each night for the park we were going to the next day and plan out the day. It saved us a lot of time and frustration.
