5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD CLASSIC DONALD DUCK STORIES !, July 9, 2002
By
This review is from: Walt Disney's Donald Duck: The Terror of the River (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 2) (Gladstone Comic Album Ser. : No. 2) (Paperback)
This is a good Donald Duck comic album. It's first and main story is called the Terror of the River and is about Donald and his nephews trying to fend off a pursuing "Sea Serpent" from their house boat in the Mississippi River. I thought this was a very good story. The second story is about Donald's misadventures trying to train seals when him and his nephews have a day at the beach. And the third and comical story is about Donald Duck being a camp counselor for the Junior Wood Chucks trying to show his "bravery and heroism."

5.0 out of 5 stars A treat for Donald Duck lovers, March 7, 2010

This review is from: Walt Disney's Donald Duck: The Terror of the River (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 2) (Gladstone Comic Album Ser. : No. 2) (Paperback)
I remember reading this story when I was just a child and I had forgotten how much fun the old Donald Duck adventures were. If you like Donald Duck and enjoy his many adventures then I can highly recommend this book. There are three stories in the book, including the lead, and all are funny. Unlike the pulp paper of the old comic books this is a medium gloss, high-quality paper with clean printing and sharp colors. Buy it, settle down and laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars But what's in this issue, you ask..., December 29, 2010
This review is from: Walt Disney's Donald Duck: The Terror of the River (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 2) (Gladstone Comic Album Ser. : No. 2) (Paperback)
Here is a list of the stories and their original sources that are in this 1988 high quality reprint book.
1) "Terror of the River" first printed in Dell Four Color #108 of 1946. 28 pages long. Art & script by Carl Barks.
2) "Seals are So Smart" first printed in Dell Four Color #108 of 1946. 10 pages long. Art & script by Carl Barks.
3) "Camp Counselor" first printed in Dell Four Color Walt Disney Vacation Parade #1 of July 1950. 8 pages long. Art by Carl Barks, script unknown.
Terror of the River is a very early one shot adventure with Donald and the nephews. Donald accidentally buys a houseboat sight unseen that is parked thousands of miles away. When he and the boys decide to take the boat down the Mississippi River, a frightening monster seems to be wreaking havoc with boat traffic. The "new" cover art on the book is by Carl Barks, the original cover was not by Barks. All of the original black and white art was used to create this reprint, with new colors for this edition. Barks did not color his stories. This classic story had been out of print for over 40 years, before it was reprinted in the 1984 Carl Barks Library, then this book in 1988. I really appreciate the Gladstone Comic Digests, while I love the Carl Barks Library in Color set so I can have every story in order, the covers on these albums were spectacular. It is a nice oversized format, and in my case I have not had a problem with the covers coming loose on any issue, and I have had them all since publication. I highly recommend.
