4.0 out of 5 stars More good Uncle Scrooge stories, July 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: A Cold Bargain (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 24) (Paperback)
This comic includes two long Uncle Scrooge stories with a one page short at the end and another one page short in the middle. In the first story Uncle Scrooge purchases the world's only supply of bombastium at an auction. While his scientists search for a use for the substance, Scrooge and his nephews rush off to Antarctica to put the Bombastium in guaranteed safe keeping, since the substance will evaporate if not constantly kept frozen. While on their journey, Scrooge and his nephews are pursued by sinister agents from the country of Brutopia, who want the Bombastium too. The second story is about Scrooge and his nephews trying to get a large payment of gold back from Bantu while trying to avoid the pursuing Beagle Boys. If you like any of the Disney ducks or Disney comics, you should enjoy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Carl Barks in quality reprints, December 22, 2010
This review is from: Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: A Cold Bargain (Gladstone Comic Album Series, No. 24) (Paperback)
This is a big comic album, Uncle Scrooge #24 from Gladstone Comics in 1989, when they first started reprinting the classic Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge stories by Carl Barks who drew Disney duck stories from the 1940's to 1960's. This over-sized graphic novel series featured high quality reprints, freshly colored from the original art on nice thick paper. The front cover is by modern duck artist Don Rosa. The stories inside are:

1) "A Cold Bargain" a 27 page adventure with Donald, Scrooge and the nephews. First published in Dell Four Color Comics Uncle Scrooge #17 of March-May 1957. Art and script by Carl Barks. This is the Bombastium story.
2) "The Secret Book" a 1 page gag of Scrooge, first published in Dell Four Color Comics Uncle Scrooge #31 of September-November 1960. Art and script by Carl Barks.
3) "All At Sea" is a 17 page adventure first published in Dell Four Color Comics Uncle Scrooge #31 of September-November 1960. It has Donald, Scrooge and the nephews facing off against the Beagle Boys while trying to deliver a cargo of gold disguised as corn kernels, but how do the ships rats fit in? Art and script by Carl Barks.
4) "Hospitality Week", a 1 page gag of Scrooge from Dell Four Color Comics Uncle Scrooge #5 of March May 1954. Art and script by Carl Barks.
