There is excitement, poetry, and wonderful illustrations in this book. It teaches children about poetry, wonderful art and suspence in stories.
It gives nostalgia to those who grew up with this book and story, and perhaps even more nostalgia to those who either lived during the 1890s,
(and I'm sure there ARE some of these people still around), and/ or the children of such people, now senior citizens themselves, who learnt about the 1890s from their parents, so throughly, that they feel they know that period almost as well as those who lived then. And younger history buffs, too! Lovers of costumes, and of whimsical illustration of all ages will have a field day looking at this book, and poetry buffs will find delight in the perfect rhymes within.
"ONCE UPON A WINTERTIME" also has nice little morals, on how one should contain one's anger, and how one should forgive those who have shown anger. (After all these years, I've just realized those morals are in this book!)
"...If ever there was a book for all ages / It's within THIS book's
pages! / A joy for all / Fascinating to know / This tale of Jenny / And her boyfriend, Joe!"
