Loses the first book.s sweet spirit,
By
This review is from: Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale (Hardcover)
From the moment Dad sells Walter at the garage sale without so much as a second thought, this book heads down the wrong path. It does not have the goofy sweet spirit of the first book. The kids I read it to were really upset that not only Dad sold the dog, but he lies without even a blink. Boo Hiss!

Acceptance, love and tolerance,

Oh my goodness! First of all: this is a book. A kid's book. Kids like farts. They are funny. If you bought the book, why didn't you take the time to read it before you walked out the store? It's not called "Walter the Sweet-smelling Pooch". The name quite clearly says it all. Most importantly, the dedication sums it up: being tolerant, accepting, and yes, loving others for being just who they are. So what if kids (and some adults) howl with laughter when Walter goes flying across the room? Benjamin Frankly said to "Fart proudly." Shrek said "Better out than in." I say we need to get over our hang ups!

This kind of literature is a breath of fresh air.,
This review is from: Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale (Hardcover)
Walter reminds me of many a night after the bean burrito. This book keeps us in touch with special moments of our childhood. I would recommend this book for anyone who has ever blamed their own flatulence on their innocent dog.

Funny For Kids and Adults,

My two-year-old and I both found this book amusing. Anything with potty humor is a big hit with my daughter. It's a book people, lighten up! There are worse things kids could be reading.

Not funny...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale (Hardcover)
The first book, Walter, the Farting Dog, is hilarious. This book is not. Father sells the dog behind the kids' back, then lies about it and a clown confines Walter to a "fart catcher" and forces the dog to eat beans and blow up balloons to be used in crimes. There are so many ways this story could have been made more palatable - having Walter be stolen instead of sold would have been a good start. If you liked the first book, stick with that one and pass on this one.

My son loved it,

This review is from: Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale (Hardcover)
My son loves Walter. He is a typical boy and body noises and it just makes him laugh. He isn't a kid that likes to read, but with the Walter books he is willing sit down and read to me and actually enjoys it.
I would recommend Walter the Farting Dog to anyone who likes a silly book that will make you and your children laugh. I am thankful for William Kotzwinkly to make this book geared towards boys and their silliness towards body noises. Because of you and this book series, by son is getting better at reading and is actually enjoying doing so.

Buy any other "Walter" book except this one!,

This review is from: Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble At the Yard Sale (Mass Market Paperback)
We LOVE the original Walter the Farting Dog book. So please understand, it is not the farting that I object to, because, as another reviewer states...kids love farts! The original story was pleasant, light, and humorous. The mistake I made was buying this book based soley on the merits of the first (I bought it from a booksale and therefore did not have the benefit of Amazon reviews.) This story is just plain weird and borders, at the least, on disturbing. Only if lying, kidnapping, and robbery are included in your idea of a good children's book should you buy this. Buy ANY of the others in the series. I would also recommend the cruise or beach books over Rough Weather Ahead however. I am not sure what happened with the author when writing this book, desperation to put out another installment quickly perhaps, but whatever the reason, it does not deserve to be rewarded with loyal fans of the series wasting their money. I am surprised, frankly, that the reviews are so divided on this, it is just terrible. If it gives Me an unpleasant feeling, I cannot imagine how my 4-year old felt when we read the first half (and then quit.)

the kids love it,

We got Walter the Farting Dog as a gift, and when I saw there were more books in the collection, I had to buy them. My kids (5 and 8) love reading these books, and pick them at least 3 times a week for their bedtime book. The only real problem I have with the books is that they portray the father in very bad light. In this book, he sells their dog and pretends he doesn't know where Walter is, when the dog returns with money, he tries to keep the cash. Not exactly a strong father figure. But if you just want a fun book with some interesting artwork, this one really pleases my son and daughter.

HORRIBLE book for children,
This review is from: Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble At the Yard Sale (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book for my 3 year old son, thinking he would get a kick out of the farting dog. Well the father in this story sells Walter the dog and lies to his children about it. Walter is then used in a plot to rob a bank. It is just bad from beginning to end-not funny, just sad. Worst children's book I have ever purchased!

Walter is back but not with the same enthusiasm as the first book. I barely laughed at this book and was disappointed because I absolutely fell in love with William Kotzwinkle's original Farting Dog book. Same strange, yet intriguing illustrations but the story didn't hold my interest.
