excellent!,

This review is from: Walter Van Beirendonck:Believe! (Hardcover)
This is a beautiful book. Orlan is one of my favorite artists, which is who inspired this collection. The text was the main reason I bought it, although the images are gorgeous. The book is large which is awesome. There are even stickers in the middle of the book! (although I wont be using them because I want to keep the book in tact). The only down side to the entire book is - there arent many pictures from the actual runway show. There are maybe two. Anyways, its a lovely book and recommend it to anyone who appreciates the concepts involving human manipulation and deformation which pose questions about beauty.

Walter Van Beirendonck is simply a genius. His fashion is outstanding and just the mere thought of using Orlan as his muse for the 1998 W< collection is plain and simply an example of how to "kiss the future!".It is too bad that the new Van Beirendonck collections are not available yet commercially, since his departure from W<, as they are completely amazing.

Not for the fainthearted-disturbing but interesting,

The photography is by Juergen Teller, therefore you know it'll be interesting if nothing else. And 2 of my favorite models are used-Devon Aoki and Alissa Bennett(who is the personification of androgyny...).However,they have these bizarre prosthetic lumps on their foreheads/brows,making them look almost cavewoman-esque.It's inspired by this strange obscure artist who actually has silicone injected beneath her skin in her forehead,on the bridge of her nose e.t.c....places it isn't what you'd call aesthetically pleasing.Still, the fashion is really cool, the Alissa pics are shot outdoors in natural light, and it's just a very interesting photo essay.I'd prefer they weren't wearing those prosthetic lumps,though...
