1.0 out of 5 stars Review by the author's son, July 7, 2009
Folks,
My Dad asked me to draw the cover for this book entitled "Walter's Wager" about a fictional character named Walter. Walter tries his best to convince the reader that God either is a jerk or doesn't exist. He Ridicules Christians and even Alcoholics Anonymous. To say the least I was very disappointed with the brash disdain for all things Christian in this book. Make no mistake, Walter is Frederick L. Whitney. So here's the details he left out of his self-absorbed book. He tends to make Walter a conscientious hero. He forgets to mention the nine children he fathered. He also makes it seem as if he was not married while he was "two-timing." There are such horrible things he did I will not share them here. I am after all a good sinner myself, and I make no claim to be a better man. So if you are a self-righteous agnostic or atheist this is the book for you. I hoped and prayed that God would break his heart and he would come to accept Christ not as a myth but as a Messiah. Ironically his atheist but loving wife died two weeks after he died. He died of cancer, she died of a heart attack. His legacy is that of pain and uncertainty. Now I live my life for Christ in sharp contrast to this scenario. The point of this sad story is that fathers should be careful what they do to their kids. And leaving them alone may be better than staying and inflicting more damage, but only marginally. His third book in this ugly trilogy was titled "Walter's Quest" and was never finished. So why are you asking yourself why the son of the writer would write such a horrible review?
Sometimes you do things you regret, sometimes you do things you think you ought to do. This may be both.
