As far as I'm concerned, this series ended when Richard Thomas left it after five seasons. When you watch the first four seasons, you understand why. People can make all the fun they want to with "John-Boy" but Richard Thomas and his portrayal of the oldest Walton child made this show was it continues to be -- an unmatched television classic.
