I'm a huge fan of Lien. Apparently she wrote all of the tunes for this cd, and the bang-up playing of herself and the three other main players comprised the arrangements, offering up some fine traditional hardanger-style music and some particularly gripping and intense playing and writing. Why not 5 stars? Who IS that guy who shows up singing on two cuts? Does he hold the title to Lien's house? Is he a cousin she can't divorce? The woman singer who pops up on a couple, or so, cuts is do-able. But how shocking to hear English by some guy with a flat (he is on key, I will give him that) American accent. He is one unexciting 'singer' and, in my opinion, does not belong on this cd. Two cuts that I skip over when playing this otherwise fine piece of work.

Annabjorg Lien is an extremely talented artist. If you have not heard of her before, you are in for a treat. I heard of her from browsing a community radio station library. I found her release called "Aliens Alive" which is a great way to hear her as well as the other musicians on that release. She has classical background, she plays with a variety of celtic women's music releases,and she has been in various groups with a variety of styles,from traditional nordic folk to rock. The sound she gets from playing the hardanger and keyed fiddles is extraordinary!
