Editorial Reviews

John Bustine, a New-Englander born and no preacher's son; a misspent youth consisting mainly of looking for a way out; John turned to the comforts of Washington D.C. and began writing songs. Drawing on traditional folk and country for his musical backdrop, he pulled from his life experiences, turning them into fairytales written for malevolent youth. John Bustine: a traveler, a sage, a poet, possibly a sailor, charts a course revealing the beauty hidden within the concealed dark side of the American Spirit. Digipak.

Format: Audio CD
I saw this guy play to an audience of about 12 people at a retail outlet, and was kinda blown away. He is a competent guitarist, his lyrics are pretty decent, and he has a very nice voice with a wide emotive range that can do passionate/tender and snarky/bitter with equal persuasiveness. There are several excellent songs on the CD and all the tracks have some element of interest. I've listened to it over a dozen times so far and am not sick of it yet. Bustine has made a solid contribution to the genre which, while it has notes of Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and many others, rings true in his own voice.

The best album of 2007!!! Not a doubt in my mind. I couldn't take it out of my cd player for 3 months. Need I say more?
