Y'all Are Going to Love This,
By
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
A lovable book about the eccentric south. Come to Second Creek with me and party with the Nittwits (a group of women resembling the ya yas and the Red Hat Society)You'll love them all. It is all about respecting the past and learning to love people in the package they come in. After all, these people are just like you and me......well, me anyway, being from the small town south myself. You'll especially love the Floozie Beauty Queen Pageant, and I have to say if it could happen anywhere, it would happen here. You'll be sad to leave Second Creek when you finish this book and wish you could go there on vacation. But it has a happy ending because I know there must be more of these to follow.

For Mitford and Gulley fans,
By
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
No, it doesn't have the religious aspects of Jan Karon's Mitford series or Philip Gulley's books, but it has the wonderful small-town life with eccentric, lovable characters. This is a story filled with love - love of a group of people for their town and its history, love for each other, and yearning for a secret, lost love. It's all wrapped up in a fun story of a group of widows coming together to save their local grocery store by offering ballroom dancing. I'm looking forward to more stories of the quirky people of Second Creek, Mississippi.

A Story For Women but Written By A Man,
By Whitney Matthews (Etowah, North Carolina United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
From the first page it is evident that the dialogue in this book is written by a man. Dalby weaves an interesting story but does not have an ear for the way women talk. Nevertheless I have given it 5 stars because it meets my criteria for fun reads. Southern Influence. Interesting/Fun Characters. Fairly High Moral Standards. Limited Graphic Sex or Violence. I wouldn't be ashamed for my mother-in-law to catch me reading it.

This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
This book makes me want to get my dancing shoes on and grab my grocery list! The Piggly Wiggly isn't making any money and is in danger of closing. So a group of widowed women, The Nitwitts, decide to help out financially and with a scheme. Waltzing with Mr. Powell while the bag boys get your shopping done for you. What a fab idea! We have a wedding in the book and some mystery as well. What happened to Mr. Choppy's hand? Will it do the trick? Will they be able to keep the Piggly Wiggly open? A mysterious woman comes and makes a question of everything. Read the book and find out all about the strange and hilarious characters of Second Creek!!!

Waltzing At The Piggly Wiggly,
By
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
What a delightful story. The people of Second Creek, Mississippi may be eccentric but they love and care for one another like we all should. When Mr. Choppy Dunbar's Piggly Wiggly store faces bankruptcy after a giant MegaMart comes to town the dear widowed ladies of the Nitwitt club come to his rescue. Their solution: dancing in the aisles with the dapper widower and retired ballroom dancing instructor Mr. Powell Hampton. Hilarity and drama lead to a fine conclusion and the hope that there are more stories to come from Second Creek, Mississippi and Mr. Dalby.

He tried too hard,
By Pat Reader "Pat" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
The author seemed to be trying for a homey Southern novel with quirky characters, but he tried too hard and the results were not appealing. Perhaps something to read while waiting in the dentist's office.

A delightful read!,
By Elisabeth Smith (Oak Park, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
I read this book in one afternoon--it's a funny, charming, light-hearted story that really made my day. Even if you're not from the South and have never shopped at a Piggly Wiggly, you'll still love these clever characters and the fanciful small town of Second Creek. There's something here for everyone, but if you like authors like Jan Karon, Ann Ross or Dorothea Benton Frank, this is definitely a book you'd enjoy. I plan to share it with several of my friends--it's just a great, feel-good book.

A Feel-Good Story With A Heart,
By
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
I found this novel about small-town Southern life and a group of eccentric friends trying to save an old Piggly Wiggly from bankruptcy to be funny and endearing. The nine-fingered store owner, Mr. Choppy, is lovable and mysterious, while the Nitwitts, the wealthy widows who come to his aid by setting up ballroom dancing hours in the aisles are delightful grande dames.I especially liked the unspooling of Mr. Choppy's secretive romantic past and the resolution between him and the 'woman who done him wrong.' A wonderful late-summer read.

Secrets of Second Creek,
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Hardcover)
I read this book before the actual release, because I had access to the ARC. As I am not as fast a reader as the previous reviewer, it took me a couple of days to finish it.It is delightful, delicate, at times dainty in the way the author presents the characters. I can very easily picture some of the main characters as I am reading & thinking about it. There are really 2 plots in this book: the main, obvious one of the unfolding of Mr. Choppy's business, the Nitwits, Powell Hampton & others; however, there is a hidden agenda in the author's mind as he is writing this...a sort of metaphysical mystique, if you will. i won't give anything more away...but my suggestion will be that anyone interested in several main plots & a connecting sub plot will find this book fascinating, and perhaps even be able to relate to it on a personal level. Please do give it a try...it will be worth it.

Boring, Boring, Boring,
By
This review is from: Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly (Paperback)
Ugh! I'm on page 140 of this book, and came to Amazon to remember why I thought I wanted to read it in the first place. I have to agreee with the other folks who gave this book 1 & 2 stars, this book just doesn't live up to its potential (or its reviews/awards). It's just plain boring and, as much as I hate to leave a book unfinished, it's not worth wasting any more of my time. Besides, I really don't care how it ends. Who are all of the people that gave this book great reviews?.....wait a minute, maybe they are the same folks who think Harlequins are literature.
