Book Description

A semi-finalist for the 2012 Best Indie Book of the Year award at thekindlebookreview.net

Welcome to the new age of talking animal fantasy!

A world of magic in it's infancy....

There is a time when history begins; a time when those who live feel the need to write their story, for those who come after them to read. When recollection of events of importance cannot be left to one's offspring alone, but must be shared with all.

Then there is a time where history transcends into legend; when strongly held beliefs are tried by fire, and traditions are questioned. There are beginnings that truly are beginnings and those that were only thought to be.

This is that world; this is truly their beginning. What they thought was knowledge, was only a foundation. They will delve into a depth they have never known, discover things they never thought imaginable, and struggle to uphold the truth rather than be consumed by it. With magic in its infancy, and a world in turmoil, an endless chain of possibilities lie dormant. Rousing them has the potential for paragon or chaos, and only time will tell.

Just as Leonardo da Vinci has mapped out the human body, and the world has begun to discover the mysteries within, so it is on Archana. With the rudimentary structure in place, they now have what it takes to discover what magic can do; both the mundane and the divine. Lore begins in these days, and mythology will forever echo their names.

The Well of Strand: Osric's Wand: Book Three will be released by early May 1, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars Review: Osric's Wand the Wand Makers Debate September 25, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Osric's Wand the Wand Makers Debate
by Jack D. Albrecht Jr and Ashley Delay

Osric's Wand is an epic tale of high fantasy Creatures in this world are governed by magic and all communicate to one another; whether they be prairie dogs, unicorns dwarfs, weasels, irua, elves, humans, lions, dragons, or eagles. All are learning their way through the ropes of magic to control and use it. This book reminded me of the epic journey Frodo took with his faithful companion Sam in "Lord of the Rings" series of books. Readers of that series will love this book as we are taken on Osric's journey of peril and self-discovery to find the culprits who have disrupted Archana's worldwide peace treaty with an explosion and save the world they know. Osric realizes that with the explosion killing some at the conference and disrupting the treaty signing each world leader will now blame the other; as they do not know where the danger came from. Osric is young and new at leadership but he has great gifts that can help him in his quest to find out the truth behind the explosions and how to prevent war He is not aware of these gift or how to use these gifts but he is willing to learn; something a reader will enjoy as the hero has to find his way. Osric is young brash but has a great capacity for compassion and leadership though he is unaware of his abilities at first. His steadfast companion Kenneth (his Sam)Gus a prairie dog wand maker (his Gimli and Gandalf all in one challenges him and has a gruff adversarial stance. As well as Pebble Kenneth's son and Bridgett an empath and Maiden to the Unicorns who join Osric to become his steadfast companions. Each help Osric to try to achieve the goals set . Together these brave creatures set out on a perilous journey to save their world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Epic! What a nice surprise February 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't generally read fantasy novels that don't have a 'romantic' theme so I wasn't sure what to expect when I started Osric's Wand. Within the first chapter I was intrigued by the characters and wanted to know more. Within a few more chapters I was totally hooked. I was very impressed by the writing...it was creative and imaginative without being too "fluffy". I was easily able to pick up the personalities of the characters and I enjoyed learning more about them and the world they lived in. There was tension and drama but in general it was a great read that I know my kids would enjoy as much as I did. This is how epic tales begin...

I hope they have a sequel in mind because I would like to see what happens next and maybe I'll get a little bit of that romance after all. hint, hint to the authors. ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars a must-read January 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't even know where to begin! I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn't read it so I'll try to write this review without spoilers. No promises :-P. First, I need to say that I really really hope there is a sequel coming! I kept looking for more pages when there were none left. Second, I need to say that the creativity it had to have taken to write this story really has me flaberghasted. This is, by my experience, a truely original story with unexpected twists about every other page. I'm pretty sure my husband thinks I've lost my mind talking about "I can't believe it ended up being a paun " and "how will Osric free the dragons?" This really was an amazing story that took me on an adventure I didn't expect. I'm honored the authors allowed me the privilege to read their story and I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone I know!

3.0 out of 5 stars Likable characters, but one dimensional April 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Very descriptive book, but lacked any challenge to it. Tons of names (people, places, positions, etc) to remember, which can be a bit confusing at times.

Book has mythical beasts, magic, secret government actions, and a hint of romance. Characters are likable, but one dimensional (plus I found Osric to be a bit dense).

Great potential for a book; preteens and young teens would probably enjoy this very much.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable March 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really tried to give this book a shot. First off, the product blurb doesn't mention talking animals. I assumed (falsely) that the high number of five star reviews indicated that this would be a good book. It was a mismash of furry magic weirdness.

Secondly. The main character's parents were eaten by a talking, sentient lion. O rly? The reaction of the main character to this was unbelievable and tainted every future interaction. Additionally, the reasoning behind it all (lion cubs needed meat) was also seemingly inconsistent, being that if you have sentient lions that talk with humans in cities (a few pages later this happens), there wasn't an alternative to what was, in my eyes, cannibalism?

Then, the main character thanks the lion that ate his parents, for bringing back a sword and a few bucks, instead of saying, "Hey man why didn't you eat the horse?"

I'm sorry but this is pure and utter garbage.

Then all this is passed off as some hunter ritual thing. Yeah right. It's stupid. If you enjoy talking animals and people that thank lions for eating their parents then this book is for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to believe even for fantasy December 18, 2012
By GJ
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I felt the book was light entertainment and meant for an early teen audience. I also felt it was worth the modest price I paid for the day of reading. Slight spoilers follow: however, I had a difficult time with the world the authors created and this is what gives the book 3 stars at most in my opinion. The authors didn't do a good job of fleshing out who was actually sentient in this world. Are all animals sentient, or just prairie dogs, lions, etc? And it defies logic that everyone would be ok with being hunted for food. I think that you would have either a vegetarian society or you would have war. If a lion killed my family (like Osric's), I think I would be more likely to go out and kill that lion so he didn't kill any more people than think that my parents and siblings were part of some natural process. And how could anyone be ok with the possibility that a peasant farmer may kill and eat the greatest wand maker (a prairie dog) the world knows (wouldn't he be protected)? If you can believe this premise for a world society, then the story may be a 3.5 to 4 star read for you, but it was just too "cute" for me to stomach. I also agree with another reviewer that found Osric slightly dense and that the book ended abruptly.
