This is, hands-down, the best black metal CD release this year. The entire album is just as fierce and atmospheric as "In the Nightside Eclipse" by Emperor, which is no small task.
This album has everything. Aggressive drumming and impressive tempo changes provide the background to what is a thoughtful, expressive, and at some times emotional, black metal assault. The album is not as "grim" as other BM releases, but the sheer artistry of its delivery is undeniable. While Pantheon I stand strongly and perfectly on their own merits, it bears stating that if Emperor never puts out another album, this is the next best thing.
