Feel Like Being There,
This review is from: Wanderlust (Mass Market Paperback)
True to form as in the other dozens of DS books I've read, you're there! DS has the devine ability to make the reader feel the time, atmosphere and emotion. She placed me in the Driscoll household in 1930s San Fransisco. I was experiencing the silence and the tension in the house. I felt the anamosity between the sisters and could sense the respect demanded by Grandfather. I found myself "rooting" for Audrey when she decided to travel Europe. When nutured a friendship with Vi and James, they were my friends too. I felt the agonizing drama of Audrey's deciding to follow her true love around the world. Along with Audrey, I expereinced the sounds and smells of Turkey and China. I found myself wanting Audrey to "fix" the orphanage and save the infant. I cried with Audrey when she found, lost, and found her true love again. I mourned her losses during the plot and grieved the pain of death with her. I rejoiced in Audrey's rewards and was never disappointed with the twists and turns of her travels and accomplishments. I would truly recommend this book to any DS reader, new or experienced. I am thoroughly looking forward to the next one!

One of my favourites,
By Deanna Hockey (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wanderlust (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been reading Danielle Steel for over 15 years and own all her books and this is one of my favourites - one I can read over and over again and still enjoy the story.I was transported back to the 1930's and admired the bravery of Audrey travelling to China when it was probably a dangerous (and not "proper") for a young single woman to do so. This one made me laugh, cry and wish that all would go well for Audrey. If you are a Danielle Steel fan you will love this one. Her earlier novels (like this one) are so much better than her later books. If you are new to Danielle Steel - this one is highly recommended. Enjoy!

this is the best book I've ever read. it pulled so much emotion out of me - from tears to joy. I could not put it down - it was like the obession I never had. I wanted it to go on and on yet I had to know the ending. If ever I wanted a squeal...

This review is from: Wanderlust (Hardcover)
Audrey Driscoll is the oldest child. Audrey and Annabelle Driscoll parents died on a ship when Audrey was eleven and Annabelle was seven. They go to live with their grandfather. From the get go Audrey takes care of her sister and grandfather. She manages his household, their servants, and helps with business. She gets her one and only desire, which is to travel. On her cruise she meets the love of her life. The problem is his job calls for him to travel and go all around the world. Audrey feels she should be at home with her family. She throws caution to the wind and goes off with him against her original plans. She stays in one place while he goes back to work. He has asked her to marry him and she says no. Through it all they get together. I love this book it is a great choice.

I have read many of Danielle Steel's books. This has to be one of her best. It is about a young woman named Audrey who has been caretaker to her grandfather and younger sister. Then, she has this need to do some traveling, and see the world. She does so, first going to New York City (she lived in San Francisco). She meets two people named James and Violet, and she becomes a travel companion for the two. In England, she meets Charles, whom becomes her one true love, and they travel the world together, and no matter what threatens to break them up, they never give up on each other. This is not as formulaic as many of Danielle Steel novels, but it is still wonderful and one of her best.

Excellent reading, once again,

This book was one of the most enjoyable ones that I have read by Danielle Steel. The characters were vivid and enjoyable and the historical events were presented in an exciting way. The romance was wonderful and the short chapters make it an excellent book to read when you don't have much time. (I'll just read ONE more chapter!)

I have just finished reading this book and i actually cried. This is a sensational book about following your heart and having to make sacrifices at one time or another. It also brings out historic moments in the 30's including the start of the holocaust. I have never read a book that moved me in all of my life. I commend Danielle Steele on her Masterpiece. Keep up the good work.
