Hands-down, the best single from the Volta era.,

This review is from: Wanderlust Deluxe Single Set (Audio CD)
I absolutely love Bjork, but I must admit that all of these huge, $40+ deluxe single sets--with beautiful packaging, but little substance when it comes the quality of the videos and remixes--have become a bit much for me. When I heard about the first single box from Volta, "Declare Independence," I pre-ordered it immediately and planned on buying all the others, too. When I actually received the box, though, I was sadly underwhelmed. I loved how the colorful sleeves fold out like a Russian doll, and I don't think anyone could resists the charm of the huge Volta sculpture sticker. But the remixes were terrible, and the video was just okay--not good enough to cause me to garner enough patience and energy to open the package again--so the box sat on my shelf and gained dust. It was probably one of the biggest wastes of money of my life and I refused to buy any more of the sets. But then this one came along. This "Wanderlust" set is what all the other Volta singles wish they could be: the remixes are superb, the video is stunning... even the packaging--full of complementary colors--is exponentially better than the others. I don't have any use for vinyl, since I don't own a turntable, but the CD is amazing. The instrumental full of stuttering horns is captivating, the Matthew Herbert remix makes the track more desperate and moody. But the best mix is definitely the Ratatat mix. The melody is completely flipped around and it is so joyous. It reminds me of the bell choir mix of "Who Is It." And words can't even describe the video, full of yaks, mythological creatures, and and evil backpack. The video is even better when viewed through the 3D glasses supplied in the box. If you must splurge on one of the Volta box sets, this is certainly the one. And if you can wait for another month or two, I believe that the two amazing remixes and the breathtaking "Wanderlust" video will be featured on the upcoming four disc box set, Voltaic, to be released in March by One Little Indian.
