How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

Let Urbanspoon choose your restaurant
Where Do You Want to Eat?

Casual diners and serious gourmets agree. Urbanspoon rocks. This handy website has been guiding hungry crowds to the best restaurants for the best deals, with its excellent descriptions, aggregated professional reviews, and candid diner evaluations. Urbanspoon is America's #1 trusted restaurant go-to site. Now you can carry the Power of the Spoon with you anywhere on your Android device.

Urbanspoon on the Go

Urbanspoon for Android has all the features you've grown to love on the website, with the added bonus of allowing you to harness your device's GPS to zero in on all restaurants in your vicinity. When you launch the app, get down to business by tapping Nearby. This brings up a list of all restaurants close to you. Tap on selection, and you'll get the straight dope on that restaurant, including its address, price range, phone number, location, message from the owner, collected professional reviews, and plenty of diner opinions. Chime in your two cents' worth by tapping I Like It or I Don't, which directly impacts the restaurant's percentage rating, and write up your own mini-review.

Get In My Belly

That's just the tip of the iceberg lettuce. You can locate the restaurants on a map within the app, so you'll always know precisely how to get there. Browse the restaurants by Urbanspoon's useful categories: Neighborhoods, Types of food, Features, Popular restaurants, Talk of the Town, and Top contributors. Within these categories are extensive categories. In Types of Food, for example, you can search through nearly 100 categories, from Afghan to Wine Bars.

Shake It Up And Spin

Of course, Urbanspoon for Android comes with the beloved restaurant slot machine. For those unfamiliar with this fiendishly useful device, the slot machine works like a Vegas slot machine, but everyone's a winner. First, choose a neighborhood or city, type of food, and price range within the three throws of the slot machine. Shake your phone, and watch your Android device randomly choose a restaurant for you. Don't like its choice? Shake it again for another random selection. This slot machine is perfection itself for those times when you just can't decide where to eat.

Right This Way, Sir!

Not only can Urbanspoon choose your restaurant, but it's also your personal maitre d'. Make reservations at local restaurants with a few simple taps, choosing the size of your part and the time. Urbanspoon will let you know if a table is available, and then make the reservation. And you don't even have to tip your phone twenty bucks. What's more, Urbanspoon isn't just limited to your city. Browse any city that the Spoon has staked out, from Albuquerque to Washington, D.C. So, what's for dinner?

2.0 out of 5 stars doesn't work in a big city either April 16, 2011
I just fired this up from home in New York City.
The closest restauarants they list simply don't exist.
It misses many actually restaurants that are near by.

1.0 out of 5 stars WTF! What is this thing? Paid advertisements? June 1, 2012
Geez, i looked for breakfast places ijn my home town of Boston MA, just to see if my favorites were even listed. what i got was a bunch of pre-digested reviews, One place had three identical reviews, can you say cut and paste? no way could i get a real review, or a decent menu, the dollar $$ signs have no meaning compared to the actual cost, one place has nothing over $10 bucks but is listed as four $$$$!
McDonald's as a breakfast place is not what i consider a meaningful option. but they list every one within 20 miles of me. The other "restaurant" is a Gay sports bar, they DO NOT serve food! let alone breakfast. I looked up a specific restaurant and the directions were not even close. Of the others ones i noted have been gone for about 4 months, not only is the place closed there is an actual hole in the ground preparing for a new hotel. I would have been really perturbed if i had taken their suggestion and went there without knowing that.
Use Google and put in "Breakfast in Boston MA" and you get a better selection, better reviews, correct directions and even websites you can go to.
Use Yelp, i have used them a lot and rarely did i get a bad suggestion, Hey urbanspoon, connect with Yelp and get your stuff together.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only good for those in LARGE Cities December 27, 2012

The App name is fitting.

If you live in New Jersey, don't bother. We have thousands of restaurants, and you won't see one of 'em here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth using, but not by itself October 19, 2012

I travel a fair amount for business and much as I hate the word, I have to admit I've turned into a foodie. This impacts my eating both at home and when on the road for work. Urbanspoon, Yelp and TripAdvisor are must-haves as a group, but none should be used individually. If a restaurant gets high marks on just one of the three, it's a judgment call. Two of the three is a safe bet and all three makes it a likely guarantee (although altogether too many low-end but frequently-visited places get oversampled and turn into "noise").

5.0 out of 5 stars Great app for locals and travelers alike! April 5, 2011
This is the first app I try when looking for a place to eat out. When traveling, you usually have to depend on local entertainment guides, which are usually "sponsored" articles anyway. This is a nice independant source to pick out a unique and tasty place to dine. It has saved me from eating at places that look interesting but ultimately got low marks.

Even in my local area, I find places to eat at that I never knew existed! It helps you find out if that hole in the wall place is a dive or tonights dinner! When you are not sure what you are in the mood for, you have the slot machine to help you decide. You can lock the price, location and/or cuisine and give the others a spin!

Anything below 80% and you are really taking your chances. You can always expect a few low marks on almost every place since people, in general, are fickle and there is always the occasional bad server. Smooth interface and usually pretty accurate reviews all make dining out easier. DL it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Your Mobile Food Fix March 16, 2014

The Urbanspoon app is here and, in my humble opinion, far better than Yelp. The folks who post on Urbanspoon tend to know a little more about food, service and perceived value.
This is a great app when you're out of your comfort zone and looking for place to grab a bite. I definitely depend on the reviews and recognize names of reviewers who know of which they speak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great App March 6, 2014

Come noon every work day, it's the same ol' question. 'Where should we go for lunch?' With this app you just have to answer 3 questions: 1. What city do you want to have lunch in? 2. Type of food 3. Price range. Lock them in and shake your phone/tablet and there's your choice for you. What's fun is most of the time it's a new place to try out.

If you don't have Urbanspoon, then get it. It's a great app. You can find restaurants that are near you, searching by price, location, or the type of food.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good
This is basically just a Yelp app for Restaurants. Some of the more fortunate places have their menus posted which makes it easy to choose, but not always.
