The only book of it's kind ever. I appreciate the time and effort that went into this book. There is no other place to find the information contained in it's pages. Thank you John Hege for your time and effort.

The Wankel Rotary Engine...,
By
This review is from: Wankel Rotary Engine: A History (Paperback)
The book is pretty informative...however, I thought it left some questions
for the reader...it could be more specific as to the final Rotary version telling of the final metallugy & technical info on the materials finally used in the seals, etc. It wasn't clear on this point I thought, and the main issue in the final development was the materials that finally worked. So, 4 stars instead of 5, but I would recommend the book anyway. Best Regards, Tom

If you are wandering about how a Wankel engine works, look no further. This book has excellent diagrams on the Wankel engine and the rich, interesting history behind the development of this piece of engineering. I'm using this book for a project in high school and it helps me tremendously.

I bought this book beacsuse I had just started working in a wanksl engine factory and I wanted to know the historical aspects of the engine and I found the book very comprihansive and full of excellent knowledge.

solid technical book, focussed,
This review is from: Wankel Rotary Engine: A History (Paperback)
A strong technical book, focussed on the technical nature of the rotary, or planetary Wankel engine. The title is apt, and it gives in very plain format a history and technical side of this wonderful engine.
It gives insight to the genius that this man was.

The Wankel Rotary Engine: A History by John B. Hege,

An interesting and well written book on the history of the Wankel rotary engine. The book concentrates on the history of the development of the engine rather than on the engineering technicalities which I liked as I'm not an engineer and get turned off by too many formulas. Having said that, there is a little mathematics in the text which explains the shape of the combustion chambers but its not too much and is well supported by written explanations. I read through the book in about two evenings and found it very interesting and easy to read. My only criticism of the book is that the diagrams are not that clear. I think I've become spoiled by some of the excellent 3D diagrams now being produced. This book was published in 2001 and that might explain why the diagrams are a bit old fashioned. My only other comment is that the book doesn't mention the Mazda Roadpacer which was a Holden Premier body with a 13B rotary engine sold only in Japan. Not a great car by all accounts but certainly a rare one.
