4.0 out of 5 stars Nice quality, size and sound
Bought this discounted with the rebate. Great buy since total ended up being $116. I was worried about the screen size but it turned out great and my 2 1/2 yr old loves it. She won't wear headphones so the sound is nice and loud enough from the speakers for her to listen to it. I initially had a problem with the pause button but after using it once or twice it works...

Well seems ok, I just received it. THe ear headsets are missing and the remote is hidden in the side of the styrofoam. So look carefully. Also there is a warning you can overcharge the battery and damage it so i guess it does not monitor that. That can be really annoying.

Bought this discounted with the rebate. Great buy since total ended up being $116. I was worried about the screen size but it turned out great and my 2 1/2 yr old loves it. She won't wear headphones so the sound is nice and loud enough from the speakers for her to listen to it. I initially had a problem with the pause button but after using it once or twice it works perfectly. I went through all the functions and tested it out when I bought it to make sure everything worked and that was the only glitch. My sister's portable dvd player gets hot after a while and quits playing. That is not the case with this one. It does not get hot like the others and I tested this with both battery and ac or car adapter. It comes with all of this and remote but I haven't used the remote yet. It is kind of a stupid concept since I'm driving and the dvd player is behind me -how is the remote ever going to be useful in the car? But its nice to have in case I take it with me on a trip or something. Recommend purchasing this since the price is great, it works great. By the time you wear it out you'll want something different and for this price you can buy 3 of them for the same price as the others.

1.0 out of 5 stars No warranty-- beware!, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Wanlida/Malata DVD-560V 5.6-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased this about six months ago, and we've been happy with the quality until we pushed the pause button and it fell into the machine, ne'er to be seen again! Upon calling Amazon, I discovered what another reviewer mentioned... that there is no warranty, and apparently this company does not exist, as there is no website, no phone number, nothing available. It's a risky way to spend $140.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Warranty!, July 9, 2005
This review is from: Wanlida/Malata DVD-560V 5.6-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
Bought this DVD player November 2004. Initially it worked fine. 7 months later it won't read any DVDs & the screen stays blank. There apparently is no warranty for this product. I ended up buying a portable DVD player by Polaroid. Much better quality, a 7" screen and a warranty.
If you buy the Malata DVD player invest in the One-Year Replacement Plan. Otherwise if it fails you are out of luck.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy, April 13, 2005
This review is from: Wanlida/Malata DVD-560V 5.6-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
The very first DVD I put in this machine did not play, even though my other DVD players can easily play it. The thing looks cheap, and when I looked at the instruction manual it had smudges in it. I guess it was returned before.
By the way, this is the first time I am returning something to Amazon. That is not as easy as it should be. Walmart is starting to look better all the time!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wanlida/Malata DVD-560V 5.6-Inch Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
1) if you are watching pvr you have burned or anyting in full screen format (4:3) such as any dvd tevision episodes this screen is effectively the same size as a 7" screen.

2) if you are traveling and there is a chance you device might be stolen or dropped this is a great buy since you have so little investment going in.

3) if you look at various reviews, people purchasing all brands, including top ones usually have problems in one year or so. you see many many angry/thumbs down reviews on much more expensive brands. why? because these are never worth fixing under warranty. people returninf sonys, toshibas, and pioners are being told their broken players are not covered fully warranted because the consumer is presumed to have caused the problem, or are finding their warrantees ccover parts but not labor, and ever portable costs $100 to fix even when supposed covered.

4) the reviewer below who said the instructions warn of overcharging battery, and expressing concern, is not exactly an expert in consumer electronics. a $3,000 top of the line laptop computer has the exact same warning, as does EVERTHING with and advanced lithium ion (the best type) battery! the warnign is pro forma and mandated by UL for EVERY portable dvd player.

spend the less than one hundred bucks shipped on one of these or the on twenty for a 7", you won't be sorry. there are plenty (most) of people who bought $175 to $300 units who were shocked that their player failed within a year after normal usage and were effectively out in the cold and asked to pay $100, ie much mor than a one year old unit would be worth under warrenty.

when it dies, toss it out and don't look back.

1.0 out of 5 stars avoid malata, April 6, 2007

i purchaced a malata dvd player/home theater back in 2004. we had to send it in for repair twice and returned several speakers that failed. the second time we sent in our unit for repair they did not send it back. it has been almost three years since we sent it in the second time. if you want a dvd player that will work and has a good company that will back it up do not buy a Malata unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for..., November 2, 2005

While my DVD player has not malfunctioned in the 6 months I've had it, I can say that a little more thought could have been put into it. Best Example is that you can't navigate a DVD's main menu without using the remote control. That would be fine if the remote control didn't suck. Also, the fact that the unit doesn't monitor the battery is an issue as well. If it wasn't for the fact that I got mine with a $50 rebate, I would give it 2 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, April 26, 2005

My unit failed and the colors faded to a mostly black and white screen within the first 15 minutes of use. This item does not come with a manufacturer's warranty card, so be cautious if you want to the unit to be of use beyond Amazon's 30 day return policy.
