Simply amazing.,
By Matthew Smith (Wallingford, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Want (Audio CD)
This cd is simply amazing, the style of their music is unique and it turns out to be very listenable and enjoyable.
Their beats usually consist of a heavy bassline laced with some techno beats. They turn out to be incredibly catchy and suit their music very well rather than just sampling done by most artists nowadays. In their single 'Punkb*tch,' when the chorus/bridge starts the beats start to ramp up and you can FEEL the tempo change. Truly remarkable for a debut album. Their rhymes, while not on the same level as other rap duos such as Blue Scholars, Gang Starr, or Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, are entertaining and at times meaningful. It usually varies from shouting/yelling the lyrics to clean singing (which turns out to be very catchy, listen to Punkb*tch). Here is an example of a really good verse by them in the song 'I'm Not Your Boyfriend, Baby.' (Kill the lights) These children learn from cigarette burns fast cars fast women and cheap drinks (It feels right) All these asphyxiated, self-medicated, take the white pill, you'll feel alright This verse is not only a point about teenagers/women nowadays, but kids behavior nowadays. People are really abusive and 3OH!3 is pointing this out and showing that young adults are MESSED UP. Most of the people who listen to 3OH!3 see them as a comedy rap group, but I see them as something better than that. 3OH!3 is one of the best modern groups I have seen nowadays that actually has SUBSTANCE unlike braindead rappers such as Soulja Boy (see Yahhh) or Lil Wayne. The best songs on this album are Punkb*tch, Chokechain, Still Around, I'm Not Your Boyfriend Baby, Holler Til' You Pass Out, and Don't Trust Me. All of the other songs are decent, but these all stand out as great songs. While some of the songs were taken from their initial EP (such as Chokechain or Holler Til' You Pass Out), these were the best songs on the EP so you are getting the best from that album along with the great songs on Want for one price. Check this band out or go see them at Warped Tour when they are in your area, they are amazing live and loads of fun on the stage. This band deserves the support for their hard work and great music.

Review by a 30something...,

I first heard this group three months ago when my 17 year old niece put "I'm not your boyfriend baby" and "Trust Me" on my new iPod. Not having heard of this group, I instantly liked them. Up until recently, I didn't listen to much music w/ three young girls, it seems at least one always asleep. When I purchased my first iPod 3 months ago and starting adding music, I was surprised at what I like these days. 3Oh!3 is definately one of them. For me the beat is catchy but not run of the mill and the lyrics are expressive. Regardless, of what others say, the explicit isn't a problem for me, it works w/ the songs. Can't imagine them w/out them. This is young homegrown group from Boulder, CO. Hence the name 303. Yeah, I didn't get it either at first. Love the sound and have noticed that P!nks new single sounds a bit similar. Gotta go w/ what works right? My fave songs: "Photofinnish", "I Cant Do It Alone" and "Still Around".

I'm sure your familiar with "Don't trust me", but what about the rest of the album? If your expecting the same thing I'm afraid your out of luck, but you won't be disappointed. The entire album flows very nicely. It compliments the mood perfectly. "What mood?" you may ask. Let me put it this way. It energizes the party while simultaneously encouraging scandalous behavior. This album will not let you down, unless your planning family reunion with your Southern Baptist cousins.
