PreSchool-Grade 1-In this basic introduction to the profession, Liebman describes visits to a doctor's office and a hospital. Different machines and common procedures such as giving a shot, taking an X ray or a blood-pressure reading, and removing a cast are shown and simply explained. Surgery, physical therapy, and emergency situations involving paramedics are touched upon briefly. The minimal text, which is superimposed on each picture in a white box, provides very little information. In addition, the author jumps from one topic to another with few or no transitions. The close-up color photographs depict multiethnic patients and professionals. Not a first purchase.

Our family really enjoyed this book because it is realistic, easy to understand, and has good role models. The pictures are well done and promote discussion, and the text is just right. A favorite with both the parents and our six-year-old twins (a boy and a girl).
