Book Description

September 1, 2012
I Want to Be Her! is part memoir and part illustrated fashion guide, written by one of fashion’s most accessible, trusted, and inspiring writers. Andrea Linett, the cofounder of Lucky magazine, shares her personal story of growing up and finding her way to fashion, and the figures who guided her along the way. Through short descriptions and memories, we meet 50 women across five eras of her life—some passing strangers, some casual friends, some close confidantes—who each made a lasting impression and helped her form her own personal style. In addition, each woman is captured in an illustration by Linett’s longtime collaborator, Anne Johnston Albert, and fashion tips accompany each entry.

5.0 out of 5 stars couldn't put it down August 27, 2012
By Lulu
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just finished reading this book and was so sad, because I wanted it to keep going and going! Equal parts funny, insightful, tender, and smart, Andrea Linett created a mesmerizing mini-story around each featured woman. Plus, her own fashion (and life) history was fascinating. Having grown up around the same time she did, it was a really lovely (and sometimes emotional!) trip down memory lane. And I think for folks who were born later, the book would provide a lot of insight. It's also really nicely written. I've been recommending it to all my friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings back so many memories !!! September 16, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I can't get enough of this charming little jewel, and luckily I found the IWANTTOBEHER.COM website so I can get more, more, more from Andrea Linnet (in the wake of her leaving Lucky magazine along with Kim France, which has since gone downhill :-(...)

This "fashion memoir" makes you THINK and opens your "editorial eye" to the street style around you...although I am 51, I can vividly recall those who influenced me through childhood, college, and later years, all the way back to watching my mother style her hair into a "Jackie" bouffant with Alberto V05 hairspray that she packed into her Samsonite train case for weekend trips...It will make you remember those you admired and envied and you'll probably pull out your yearbooks for a look back at your local style goddesses and icons, along with the hair, clothing, and makeup trends! Like smelling a perfume you used to wear, this little gem will give you a wonderful "deja vu".

Besides enjoying Andrea's vignettes, you'll look at acquaintences and strangers in a new way...what do you see that you like? You'll learn to assimilate what you like in others and mix it up into your own style...you are what you read, you are what you eat, you are what you see!

Much more inspiring that a book full of celebrities with endless bank accounts, you'll want to go through your closet with a whole new attitude...it makes you appreciate all the ladies who've made you "YOU" along the way...and look forward to all the ladies who'll cross your path in the days ahead!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for your guestroom night table December 11, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Andrea Linett's book gave me a giggle. I devoured it in two straight evenings, bought another copy for my best friend for Christmas, and have now placed I Want to Be Her! on our guest room night table for our next female overnight guest to enjoy. Especially liked Linett's homage to her mother. A charming book, with some solid fashion tips.[...]
