Absolutely the worst book ever., July 13, 2006
This review is from: So You Want To Be A Lawyer (So You Want to Be...(Frederick Fell)) (Paperback)
I don't even know what to say. This should never have been published. The content is not outstanding, but the writing and particularly editing, or lack thereof, is appalling. One example: chapters 3 and 4 are the same. I don't mean they cover the same content, I mean they are exactly the same--verbatim. The sentences that begin and end chapter 3 also begin and end chapter 4. And EVERY sentence in between is the same, as well. Also, the Calabreses seem to be afraid of commas and other punctuation. When things like quotation marks are (infrequently) used, they are usually used incorrectly or inconsistently. In short, the only readers who WON'T be offended or even physically sickened by the writing in this book are those who probably couldn't pass high school english class, much less be accepted into law school.

Proofreading? What's Proofreading?, May 18, 2010
This review is from: So You Want To Be A Lawyer (So You Want to Be...(Frederick Fell)) (Paperback)
When a book begins with a "Table of Content [sic]" you know you're in for a treat. This is one of the worst-written and -edited books I've ever seen. Typos and improper formatting abound on almost every page. As another reviewer has noted, Chapter 3 ("Law Practice Environment") and Chapter 4 ("Types of Law") are verbatim repetitions of each other! This book would have been vastly improved simply by paying a 7th grader $20 to proofread it.
The content is not terrible, but it's very general, non-specific, and could easily be found on the internet. There's nothing particularly insightful or interesting -- certainly nothing that warrants enduring the awful writing and editing.
I hope Susanne Calabrese already had a secure job at the time this was published. I can't imagine any self-respecting law firm would hire anyone involved with the production of this embarrassment of a book.

Editors Anywhere?, December 11, 2006
This review is from: So You Want To Be A Lawyer (So You Want to Be...(Frederick Fell)) (Paperback)
Unfortunately, I must agree with all of the aforementioned comments. As a recent college graduate, I was actually suggested to read this book by one of my co-workers. I pray it was meant to be a joke.
As previously stated, repitition runs rampant in the book. Sentences are the same, paragraphs are the same, and even chapters are the same. It seems as if there were not any editors to revise the book, and was thus published.
Overgeneralization is another problem. Though I understand that you cannot make the legal profession too specific, I also understand that you cannot categorize them into seven small titles.
It may seem that I am being rather harsh, but this book is not at all a good read. I couldn't even find myself reading past chapter two before I realized this. Hopefully, you won't make the same mistake I did.
