PreS Ross takes a frustrating and often stress-producing subjecttoilet trainingand infuses it with low-key humor. The little princess is not too thrilled with the idea when the queen first tells her, ``The potty's the place,'' but after some practice and several mishaps, she becomes quite pleased with her near-mastery of the art. Children will laugh at her antics and appreciate her predicament when caught unexpectedly at the top of the castle without her potty. The delightfully expressive drawings and non-didactic treatment of the difficult stages of toilet training will be enjoyed by both adults and lttle ones, as will the realization that even princesses have accidents. The illustrations are nice. There are only a few words on each page, so it is a quick read. The little princess is really trying, but sometimes you just can't make it to the potty in time & that's okay.

We discovered this story in a large compilation book I bought just as my son was beginning toilet training. This story immediately became his favourite and he asked for it over and over, able to relate completely to the little princess' ups and downs with toilet training, and her eventual little accident on the floor. The sense of humour is exactly right for two and three year olds and our big story book is still known as "the potty book".

I should have heeded the review I read describing the little girl standing in the puddle before I bought the book. The illustrations were frankly, a bit scary, and the author missed the opportunity to reassure the child that everyone has accidents, and that it's OK. Instead, the book just ends, showing the sad and confused child in the puddle. hello! I sent the book back straightaway!
