Both my children & I love this book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want My Potty (Paperback)
The illustrations are nice. There are only a few words on each page, so it is a quick read. The little princess is really trying, but sometimes you just can't make it to the potty in time & that's okay.

Just right for toddlers,
By Catherine (Gisborne, New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Want My Potty (Paperback)
We discovered this story in a large compilation book I bought just as my son was beginning toilet training. This story immediately became his favourite and he asked for it over and over, able to relate completely to the little princess' ups and downs with toilet training, and her eventual little accident on the floor. The sense of humour is exactly right for two and three year olds and our big story book is still known as "the potty book".

Illustrations could frighten a toddler,

I should have heeded the review I read describing the little girl standing in the puddle before I bought the book. The illustrations were frankly, a bit scary, and the author missed the opportunity to reassure the child that everyone has accidents, and that it's OK. Instead, the book just ends, showing the sad and confused child in the puddle. hello! I sent the book back straightaway!

Is it a cup or a potty?,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want My Potty (Paperback)
My 21-month-old daughter seems to like the story and that it is a princess learning to use the potty (since she is too), but the potty doesn't look like a potty. She thinks its a cup. Now she wants to take my coffee up to the potty and use it.

My daughter, the princess, has a potty too; she related well,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want My Potty (Hardcover)
My daughter related to the frustrations of using the potty and getting to it too late. Since we call her "princess" and she also has a potty, she thought the story was about her. So of course, she wanted to imitate the princess in the story. Within a week, my little girl was asking to sit on her potty -- quite successfully too

My nearly three year old (mostly potty trained but still having accidents) loves this book, and his six year old brother loves reading it to him. They both think it's hilarious, and we always have to read it at least three times in a row. I guess I can understand others' objections to the book, but I watch my little boy easily identifying with the little potty training princess in her quest to master the potty chair. He clearly enjoys watching her journey through the process. As for the ending, it's so easy to add an, "oh well, that's okay", just as you would if your child had an accident.

Shows HUMILIATION,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Want My Potty (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it would be helpful. The princess theme was a good one. But, I am SO GLAD I READ this book BEFORE I gave it to my little one. While it does show the little princess asking for her potty (a good message), it does not show encouragement or making the child feel better after her "accident". It has the poor child standing in a puddle, redfaced, emabrrassed, and with sad eyes. It shows the humiliation a child may feel if it doesn't get to the potty in time. And, may, make her afraid to go without the diaper for fear of not getting there in time. I was appalled. So much that I will not even donate this book or give it away. It is going into the trash.

My son enjoys this book, even if I don't care for it,
This review is from: I Want My Potty (Paperback)
With all the potty books we have, this is the book my SON asks for. We had bought the book for his sister, who he now calls Princess thanks to the book. Other potty books can be too instructive or not enough illustrations and he furrows his eyebrows when I read them. But "I Want my Potty" holds his attention and he thinks about and processes the book long after I've read it.While this isn't the book I would have written, it is one of my son's favorites.

I think all children books should include a virtual tour or a description of the book (whether it's for boys or girls, whether it has any pictures, how many pages, etc.) It's very hard to judge if the book is suitable for your needs by the title alone.
