Classic of the spiritual life,
By
This review is from: I Want to See God: A Practical Synthesis of Carmelite Spirituality (Paperback)
This book is a great synthesis of the spiritual life and is good for all Christians. P. Marie-Eugene explains all the facets of Carmelite spirituality in a very down-to-earth, practical way. He takes the reader through all of the different stages of the spiritual life (purgative, illuminative, unitive) with the aid of spiritual powerhouses like Sts. Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. It is also a good primer for those seeking a foundation in spiritual theology; it also serves well as a moral theology text.

It is a great summary and an easy to grasp digest of Carmelite Spirituality. It is a wonderful read either individually, in a book club format, or with a Spiritual Director. The subtitle explains the goal of the book: A Practical Synthesis of Carmelite Spirituality. This information can become practical knowledge by answering to these questions after each chapter: What does this mean to me? How can I implement this information in my life? It is a priceless book for those who search for truth and want to grow in the love of God.

Excellent Book,
This review is from: I Want to See God: A Practical Synthesis of Carmelite Spirituality (Paperback)
This book summarizes Carmelite Spirituality through different essays. What I like best is how they have managed to make John of the Cross' spirituality "easy". I have always found him hard to read. The essays also speak about of of John of the Cross' contemporary: Teresa of Avila. While I found her interesting, I'm still trying to get a better understanding of her "7 Mansions." Great book, nevertheless. If you like this type of book, I also recommend the Fulfillment of all Desire. In this particular book you will find practical suggestions on how to get closer to God and achieve holiness. Aida L. A book that follows St. Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle. It is well broken up into small parts. I recommend it.

I bought this book as a gift for a nun. I have not read it yet, but the nun is studying Carmelite Spirituality. I really admire people who seek God. I don't know much about this Spirituality except what I learned from St. Therese of the Little Flower. Her Spirituality is a matter of the heart and its simplicity help ordinary people like me to seek God in a little way possible. Because it is a matter of the heart, the desire to seek God is required to get any benefit out of this book. I hope it will benefit my friend who is a religious sister whose mission is to pursue ways to God. It is the best gift that I can give to a friend. I would recommend this book to anyone who are tired of the evil of this world and its immorality and want to seek God, the Truth, the Way and the Life.
