Dream Your Dream,
By
This review is from: Want You (Audio CD)
This album is phenomenal! Buble, Cincotti, and even the latest incarnation of Rod Stewart can't hold a candle to DeSare. He blows them away, not only vocally, but with original songs that blend in with the best of Coleman, Green, and Mancini as well as some incredible piano work. I challenge anyone to listen to this album and not smile - it's just not possible!
The highlights are the slickly seductive "Want You" that could populate any smoky '40s gin joint, the original "Movin' On" that proves the American Songbook is still being written, the zippy "Just In Time" with a sublime solo from the legendary Bucky Pizzarelli, and the grin inducing "(I'd Have It All)If I Had Drew." Do yourself a favor and pick this album up - use it to show people what good music REALLY sounds like.

Rising Star Tony DeSare,
By
This review is from: Want You (Audio CD)
I had a chance to be at Tony DeSare's CD launch at Birdland in NYC and he is a great new jazz star that we will be hearing more from in future CD's. If you want to hear a fresh sound with both unique written material and American Standards, buy this CD and hear how talented this new star is. I expect we will be seeing Tony DeSare at the Carlyle and Algonquin Oak Room in the not too distant future. He is that good.

Jamie Cullum, Peter Cincotti and Michael Buble, move over. You got company.
I carefully chose my words there: I didn't say "step aside." Based on this freshman outing of Mr. Desare, a singer-pianist who obviously performs in the Sinatra (by way of Connick) mold, like the others, he deserves to be handicapped within the formidable young trio, making it a formidable young quartet. Here's how I'd break it down: Pianist: Cincotti. While Desare shows his chops on "Five Foot Two" (much like Connick did nearly 20 years ago on "Avalon"), I think Cincotti has a greater command of the 88's at this time than the others. (Check out Cincotti on "Fool on the Hill/Nature Boy." I rest my case.) Performer: Buble. Buble comes closest to "owning the material" of the four, much like Sinatra or Torme used to do. That's the primary reason I'm giving this c.d. four and not five stars; for as good as Desare sounds, this album as a whole sounds more like a recital than a performance. Songwriter: Probably Cullum, although personally I like Cincotti quite a bit. Desare and Mike Lee have 6 songs here. They are my least favorites on the set, although presumably he'll get some p.r. with "If I Had Drew" from the movie "My Date With Drew." Singer: Actually, I would put Desare on top. He has a very nice range, with a mellow, buzzy timbre in both parts of his range. He reminds me of Bobby Darin, and that's a compliment. Kudos to his voice coach; he has served Mr. Desare very well. Overall: it's going to be interesting. Don't forget: Sinatra started out as a "skinny kid from Hoboken." His greatness really didn't come forth until about 20 years into his career. There's no reason why Desare couldn't do the same. Here's hoping. RC

The Male Version of popular jazz artist-Diana Krall,
By
This review is from: Want You (Audio CD)
It appears that the US has just been introduced to the male version of Diana Krall in Tony DeSare. His sophisticated yet elegant jazz sound demonstrates great range and flexibility. DeSare seems very much in command of the American Standards and in making his own unique music fit right into the jazz that afficianados appreciate. Order this CD now and you will find yourself playing it over and over again. Enjoy!

I just saw Tony DeSare at the sands casino he has such a great presence when he sings. His cd is sexy and hip I can't stop playing it, he has my Frank and Harry cd's getting dusty. That's pretty impressive. I hope he has another cd coming out soon.

I've seen Tony live a few times and enjoyed the experiences. This CD wonderfully conveys his voice, stylings and personality. Both he and this CD are winners.

I saw Tony DeSare perform in person with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in February 2011. He is the real, complete, deal! Plays piano to die for, has a voice that is sooooo good, and a great songwriter to boot! A compleat entertainer. His CD is wonderful. I wish he had DVDs, I'd buy them, too. This one was so good, I bought a second copy for her, and now she's a Tony Desare fan as well. I'd say, Michael Buble, move over, but ... Tony DeSare is in a class by himself!

The best male performer in his genre,
By
This review is from: Want You (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful cd for just about anyone. Even if american jazz standards aren't your favorite. This performer takes the standard to the same level as Sinatra, plus he writes, plays and sings his own creations that blend perfectly with the old favorites. He has a smokey style that makes him sizzle. Love it!

Having recently purchased all three of Tony's cds after seeing him in concert, "Want You" is hands down my favorite. This album has a freshness and energy that one would expect from the debut cd of a talented young artist.
DeSare's vocals shine on every selection. It's impossible to pick one favorite, but I can narrow it down: "Baby, Dream Your Dream" - this homage to eternal optimism can brighten up the gloomiest day. A definitely downloadable tune! "We've Got a World That Swings" - Oh baby, Frank, Sammy, and Dean would be smilin' now if they could hear this one!! "How I Will Say I Love You" - DeSare proves to be a competent song writer on this sweet, contemporary ballad. If you are only going to order one DeSare cd, this should be it. You won't be disappointed. Tony's blend of smoky jazz, sunny swing, and modern ballads should please even the pickiest music lover. Enjoy!

Tony DeSare - Pianist,

I think some of the reviewers of Tony DeSare have confused "chops" such as Five Foot Two as an example of Tony' ability on the piano. The true showing of his monster talent is on Two for the Road on the Want You album. This is nothing short of brilliant arranging and performing. Five Foot Two may be fast but the complexity and beauty of Two For the Road is a rare treat. Off hand I can't think of a single performance that quite compares. I am anxious for the next album.
