Wanted! a book by Caroline B. Cooney,
This review is from: Wanted! (Mass Market Paperback)
The book Wanted! is a very well written suspense book filled with mystery and thrilling events. The story starts with a phone call from Alice's dad. He tells her to take the corvette and bring the disks labeled TWIN to the place where they get milk shakes. Even though Alice does not have her license he says it doesn't matter and to just bring them any way. Alice tries to ask him why but he hangs up before she can. Why would her dad want the disks and for her take the car out when she can't drive? Alice is about to leave when she hears people come into the house. Scare, Alice hides under the car till she thinks they are gone. When she gets in the car and drives to the place she hears disturbing news on the radio. Her dad has been murdered. The police and her very own mom thinks she is guilty, because of confession e-mail letter. Now the police are after her and the real murder too. Will Alice be caught? If Alice is caught, who is will be the one catching her? The rest of the book tells of her exciting adventure of being a fugitive. I had a good time reading this book and thought it was a very good page-turner with cliff hanging chapters. I recommend this book for people who like action pack thrillers. The reading level is Young Adult. I suggest if you like this book, you will like other Caroline B. Cooney books such as, Twins and Driver's Ed.

Who Killed Alice's Father?,
By
This review is from: Wanted! (Mass Market Paperback)
Alice's parents had been divorced for a while. Alice wants to spend some time with her father so she goes to live with him for a couple of days.
One day when school is off for the day Alice gets a phone call from her father while she is doing her nails. Her father asks her to take a file marked T.W.I.N., take his car and drive to a place that they used to get milkshakes. She does not want to do this because she is only 15 but she agrees. Several minuets later she hears somebody come into the condo that her father lives in. At first she is relieved thinking it is her father, but soon realizes that it is not. She hides under her father's car as she hears a big thump and the computer start up. Then she hears a man say in a voice she half recognizes that "I killed him good." She does not know what he is talking about, but thinks it dealt with the big thump. After the guy left she went to the place where she and her father went to get milkshakes and is too crazed to do anything for a while. A while later she gets a coke and a milkshake and goes back to the car. She turns the car on so she can listen to the radio and that is when she learns that her father is dead and she is the prime suspect. This leads to Alice hightailing it out of the ice cream place trying to stay one step ahead of the police and the real person that killed her father. Because she wants to evade the police and the person who killed her father she goes from the mall, to a college campus, to the house of her father's work colleague, to her father's condo to the house of her mother's boyfriend. While on the lamb she manages to read what was on the TWIN disk that her father wanted. It is an autobiography that details Mark Robie's (Alice's father) life. It also talks a lot about his brother who worked getting company secrets from competitors. According to her father his brother was killed by his boss because he was going to tell what he was doing. So who killed Alice's father? What Happens to Alice? Read Wanted and find out

"Wanted!" by Caroline B. Cooney is a fast, action-packed book similar to a movie. If you like murder mysteries, full of suspense, then you'll definately love this book. This book involves car chases, threatening phone calls, and the fear of not knowing what or who is going to strike in the next sentence. Alice Robie lives with her divorced father, while her mother lives in another section of town. One day Alice receives a strange phone call from a man, who claims to be her dad. It doesn't sound much like him, but she believes him. He tells her to meet him at their favorite ice cream shop along the Salmon River, in Connecticut. He also gives her careful instructions to take the Corvette, her father's prized possession. Alice is very suspicious, as her father would NEVER let her drive the Corvette before this point in time, even if she had had her driver's license, which she does not. Just as she is about to get into the shiny red Corvette, she hears the condo's front door unlatch and open with a shove. It sounds as if something heavy is being dragged across the floor, and then there is a yell, and a THUMP!, and silence. She quickly crawls underneath the Corvette as the sound of feet approach the one-car garage. She waits and hears some noises, like the sound of keys on a keyboard being pressed, some feet, and then the front door shuts, and she hears a car pulling away. Alice quickly opens the garage door and pulls the red Corvette out onto the street, knocking over a neighbor's clay planter. She arrives at the ice cream shop, which is now closing up for the day, the time being 5:00 PM. Alice, in a frenzy, turns on the radio and the music calms her down. Suddenly, a news bulletin comes on. "At approximately 4:30 PM, on Lake View Drive, Mr. Robie was murdered." Alice shrieks. "The murderer was seen to have driven away from the scene of the crime in a....bright....red....Corvette." Frantically, she turns off the radio, hops out of the car, rushes over to the pay phone, inserts twenty-five cents, and dials her mother's number. "Hello?" Her mother answers. "Mom!" Alice screams. "Alice, dear! Alice, we know. I got your e-mail with the confession in it....it's all right dear, you must have been terribly mad....we know you killed your father."

In an emergency....,
This review is from: Wanted! (Mass Market Paperback)
What would you do if your father frantically called and gave you specific instructions to follow, including driving his Bronco when you are just fifteen and don't yet have your license? Alice dallies and soon someone comes into her house talking about killing.
From this point on, Alice's inherent strength for survival kicks in and she acts on adrenalin. Hiding under her father's Bronco saves her the first time. There are many more to go. She hears on the radio that she is wanted by the police for the murder of her father. Apparently, Alice sent an email to the police confessing the murder, but of course Alice knows better. Her mother's radio/television statement seems accusatory. What is Alice to do? Where is Alice to go? This is the set up for the story. Most of the novel has Alice confronting one set of dangers after another. Not that she is a superhero, she uses every wile, every subtlety in eluding police and the real killer. People who trust unknowingly help her find shelter and hiding without knowing that is what they are doing. What is most important is that she has an all-important disk that apparently contains secrets key to the revelation of the murderer. How the story unfolds in the last quarter is fast-paced and surprising. I think the point is to show how we often do not know people around us and how often we do not open up to those we love. Wanted: freedom from hidden pasts and ability to show love. Caroline B. Cooney is a very popular young adult writer. This book makes the fourth I've read and quite enjoy, but it is not on the level of adult fiction. If a movie, it would be PG.

Wanted is a thriller. It's about a girl who is accused of murdering her own father! Her father had called her about a half-hour before his murder teling her to take his beloved Corvette and drive it to salmon river! She's only 15 and doesn't have her license yet! She drives there and an hour later hears her dad's name on the radio saying that he'd been murdered! Than the description of the Corvette (Which she was in) and panicked called her mom who said that she had a personal testimony from Alice and so Alice just ran ran ran. Her parents had a divorce and her mom had a new boyfriend. All Alice had left of her father were two disks named TWIN! Will Alice prove that she didn't kill her father? I knew right from the start that Alice didn't and so will you but will you find out who did it before they tell you? I gave this five stars because I relly liked the book and it kept me interested. I never wanted to put it down! I think that anyone who has read a Caroline B. Cooney book and liked it will like this book.

This was a very good book.It made you want to read more and more. It kept on clinging on and on.I never wanted to put the book down except for when I had to go ther and when i was so tired I could not read it anymore. It was about a girl named Alice who is 14, and d her mother and father were split up and her mothe did not want Alice to go to her fathers house, but she wanted to go for the first time. So her mom let her go. One day when Alice was painting finger nails when she got the callthat changed her lfe.In a low deep voice "Alice, this is your father bring me the disks that are both called twins they are in the fire proof box in my office and hurry up." She was so she did not know what to do? She did not think it was her father but she had to go change because she did not know what to wear in a shiny red convertable. Then she thought that why would my father let me drive the convertable. He dad only had a blazer which he drives to work in the city and the convertable is for fun and he never lets Alice drive it. So she was really scared so she took the nail polish and put it in a bag and she decided to go.Before she had left someone came in her house and said "Ikilled him good" she was so scared. She was late so she firured that her father was still going to be where they agreed to meet at her favorite ice cream place.A while after she had been there she turned on the radio and she was finishing her nails when on the radio she heard an announcement that her father had been killed{murdered} so then they said that when the police arrived they say Alice shooting out in her fathers convertable so then they said that Alice had done it. When she called her mother from the pay phone and her mother said that she can't believe that she would do something like that and then Alice said to her mother that she did not do it. Her mother said she had a confesstion from her by e-mail. So then Alice just hung up the phone. She did not know where to go or what to do? Who did it? why did they do it? what about the disks?

An book full of mystery and excitement,

This review is from: Wanted! (Mass Market Paperback)
The book "Wanted" was an awesome book. I couldnt put it down. In this book a girl named Alice struggles to find her way out of being framed and accused of murdering her father and on the way has to figure out a mystery that no one knows. I really enjoyed this book. It is full of detail and makes you feel that you are the one in Alice's situation. It also made me think about what I would do if I was framed like she was. So many questions that couldn't be answered. Where do I go? Do I run? Do I see if they believe I didn't do it? Every one including her mother thinks she did it so she was trapped. It was so exciting to find out how she delt with the situation and compare it to if I would have made the choices she made. The book was very intense and kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time waiting to see what would happen next. Caroline B. Cooney is an excellent author. She uses such descriptive writing and makes you feel a part of the book. It is also written in such an intense and fearful mood. I would definitly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good mystery/murder book that keeps your attention at all times. I will definitly read more of Caroline B. Cooney's books.

Best Book Ever!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Wanted! (Mass Market Paperback)
Alice Robie has been accused of murdering her father! When her dad calls and tells her in a panicky voice to drive his Corvette (the one he doesn't let ANYONE touch) and meet him at their favorite ice-cream place, she can't believe it! She doesn't even have her license. Alice starts to argue but he hangs up too soon. She drives to the ice-cream shop and waits for several hours, but he never shows up. Then an announcement comes on the radio. "39-year-old Marc Robie was found murdered in his house...Police are looking for his teenage daughter, Alice Robie, for questioning.... Police were called by the murder victim's ex-wife, who received an email from their daughter Alice, confessing that she had killed her father..." Will Alice be found guilty, or will they find the real murderer before he finds Alice? I liked Wanted because it was very exciting and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries because it is so good and you can never predict what will happen next.

I really liked this book. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing (usually incorrectly), and the characters were very well thought out, especially Alice. Readers will appreciate this normal girl caught up in something no one should ever have to deal with, and will be enthralled by her resourceful, if somewhat messy solutions to the fact that everyone's after her- hiding in an elementary school, in disguise on a college campus, even trying to lose her pursuers in the mall. The emotional trauma she goes through is also dealt with well. All in all, a solid and believeable suspense story, well worth reading.
