Jake took in the veil, the snug bodice, the bare midriff, the silken trousers-and the blond hair. The fact that she was obviously one of the Sultan's cast-offs didn't bother him. Jake lived on the fine edge of danger and adventure and had little patience for virgins. He'd taken time out to rescue this gorgeous damsel in distress, and he'd exact payment in his own fashion-tormenting her night after night with his skilled caresses, his exploring kisses, and his complete mastery over her every sensation.

I read romance (among other things) but I don't normally read historical romance (or historical fiction), and I've never read a book by or even heard of Evelyn Rogers, but I was on vacation, had finished my book from home and the resort had a book exchange. I left this book there the first time I saw it and picked up a contemporary romance (A Creed in Stone Creek by Linda Lael Miller), finished that, and Wanton Slave was still there. So, I picked it up, went back to my lounge chair, skimmed the first 10 or so pages, and then realized that somewhere along the way I had started reading it word for word and was actually really getting into the story. It had a bit of intrigue mixed in with the romance, too, which I didn't expect. I really liked that the heroine was not just a damsel in distress rescued by a handsome hero. She was clever, intelligent, resourceful, always thinking. Also, the back cover (and the other amazon review) and the title didn't really do the book justice. I'm definitely going to consider other Evelyn Rogers titles, after reading this one.
