Christopher is a gambler who wins a southern plantation in a card game. Kathleen (Katie) is a modern woman who feels trapped into going to Louisiana by her father's need to marry her off. After Christopher hits her brother, Katie charges to her brother's rescue and gives Christopher a black eye. Thus begins this tale.
WANTON PLEASURE is a book full a intrigue and daring. Set in the pre-civil war Louisiana, the plantation way of life and the color lines are very much on display in this novel. It is interesting to read Christopher and Katie's story, but it is also interesting the role the Underground Railroad plays. If you are a fan of Smith, this is a must read. If you are a newcomer to Smith, read this book.

The storyline was good. The characters were were easily liked, hated, and even tolerated but it all was overshadowed by the overwhelming number of typo's. Sometimes a sentence had to be read multiple times to try to guess at the correct word that should have been used. Different scenes would roll back to back with no noticeable difference in spacing so again you would have to reread a sentence to realize the author is starting a different scene. Final editing would have done wonders for this book and could easily make the three star rating into a four star.

Wow!! Couldn't put it down! Kept you turning pages. Based mainly in the south, it was quite the seductive book, and should I say...lusty?? Characters were fueled with emotions and just a really good read.

The author plays fast and lose with the writing rule "show don't tell." Unfortunately, the character development comes out as the loser as a result. Also, to have the "hero" of the piece call the "heroine" a tease and shame her for not letting him feel her up is degrading. This is a romance novel, not a high school prom date. There was zero romance in that. The flow between sections is choppy and by two chapters in I realized that I didn't much like any of the characters. This book is cheaply priced, but you get what you pay for. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

I have read many of Bobbi Smith's books; I have enjoyed many. I enjoyed reading this because of the history. I however do not like so many conflicts; the characters falling in love so fast. This was not a favorite
