5.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh Voice with Fresh Thoughts
Usually I cannot be found within five miles of a "relationship" book, and I picked this one up only when urged to (threatened) by a friend. And there went my preconceived notions, out the window. This book is enchanting. It is reassuring. If all men were as savvy as the author, there would have been no need for him to write it. As it is, he provides an...

2.0 out of 5 stars This book is a pep talk
I bought this book to try to get over a paralyzing fear that I felt about a big commitment step that I was sure, in the long term, I wanted to take. I was hoping it would provide me some insight into why I was afraid, and how to get over it. It did provide some small comfort that other men seem to have gone through the same stuff, but on the downside, the whole thing...

This review is from: She Wants a Ring--and I Don't Wanna Change a Thing: How a Man Can Overcome His Fears of Commitment and Marriage (Paperback)
Usually I cannot be found within five miles of a "relationship" book, and I picked this one up only when urged to (threatened) by a friend. And there went my preconceived notions, out the window. This book is enchanting. It is reassuring. If all men were as savvy as the author, there would have been no need for him to write it. As it is, he provides an illuminated, conscientious guide to navigating the process of making a commitment to another human being. I'm grateful too that this book came out in paper, so that I can bend it, mark it up, and afford to loan it to people. Read on!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book salvaged a relationship gone bad., July 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: She Wants a Ring--and I Don't Wanna Change a Thing: How a Man Can Overcome His Fears of Commitment and Marriage (Paperback)
I had broken off a relationship with a heavy heart...fearing it was going nowhere. When I read this book (in one sitting) I knew I had to send it to "him" to read...shortly thereafter he began calling, 3 months later we had reconciled, and 6 months later we moved in together...this book was the catalyst.

I highly recommend this book.

This review is from: She Wants a Ring--and I Don't Wanna Change a Thing: How a Man Can Overcome His Fears of Commitment and Marriage (Paperback)
I bought this book to try to get over a paralyzing fear that I felt about a big commitment step that I was sure, in the long term, I wanted to take. I was hoping it would provide me some insight into why I was afraid, and how to get over it. It did provide some small comfort that other men seem to have gone through the same stuff, but on the downside, the whole thing reads like a Cosmo article. It is punctuated with silly lists of things to always do or never do (which is great, because all relationships are the same, right?), it actually advises you to keep certain things secret from your potential life mate (wtf?), and if I could boil it down to one sentence, I'd say this book essentially says, "Don't worry, don't worry, it's going to be fine." Well that may be true. But I was hoping for something to help me feel better in the long term, not to give me upbeat liquid courage to accidentally make the right decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but also insightful, March 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: She Wants a Ring--and I Don't Wanna Change a Thing: How a Man Can Overcome His Fears of Commitment and Marriage (Paperback)
I bought this book as somewhat of a joke for a friend, but after reading it I realized that it is actually a helpful resource for anyone struggling with the issue of commitment. It provides an insightful look into the thought process we go through and provides rational explanations for the difficulties that anyone faces in making (what we hope to be) a lifetime commitment. I recommend for not just commitment-shy men, but for the women dating them! It makes you understand what they are going through and perhaps even help with the best way to deal with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where were you when I needed you?, February 26, 2001

This review is from: She Wants a Ring--and I Don't Wanna Change a Thing: How a Man Can Overcome His Fears of Commitment and Marriage (Paperback)
Nice job Mr. B. for capturing my life on these pages - but where were you when I need you! I was (honestly) an evolved, caring, capable of intimacy guy who was classically marriage-phobic -- having lots of fun, many really good relationships (several 1-3 years long) but in the end still stuck, and walked (ran, usually, ambivalently torturing myself....) away from some pretty wonderful women because "I wasn't ready", whatever that meant. I finally figured it out, (no help from you thanks), got married at 42 years old and now have two beautiful children who I wouldn't trade for the world. For any man out there who sounds like me - - - read this book.

What a relief to read a wise book that is also witty, daring and playful. James Barron has lived the problem--and solved it--not just for himself but for a lot of guys. Barron travels the male psyche--hertofore the rockiest of roads--and makes the journey fun and easy. It's a great book fora woman to give to the guy she loves--it will help him make good choices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding - revelatory - reality bites on every page!!!, April 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: She Wants a Ring--and I Don't Wanna Change a Thing: How a Man Can Overcome His Fears of Commitment and Marriage (Paperback)
Well done Mr Barron. I heard about your book from a friend called Patty in Chicago. I thought that I would read it and see what all the fuss was about. What I got was a great, easy to read manual for giving up your stories about committment, getting clear that there are always more women out there (and it doesn't matter - just choose the one you've got!!) and some great tips for keeping romance alive ongoingly - through the pre-wedding, wedding and post-nuptial phases!!! (and even applicable for 5 or 25 years afterwards). James - loved the book - now I have to read the other ones!!! (I guess they are useful even if you haven't got down the aisle yet!!!) Now all I need is the manual for finding the woman of my future in the first place!!!
