My music tastes run to the Hank Dogs and the Be Good Tanyas. I find a lot of female folk musicians too lilting and ethereal - I like my folk with a little whiskey and grief. If you are coming from the same place, Amelia Curran is the woman you've been pining for.

Wandering around St. John, New Brunswick, after getting off a cruise ship, we stumbled upon a neat back-alley record store. The sales clerk recommended this CD, and it's now one of my favorites. Strong melodies, great lyrics, and a beautiful voice get this CD played at least once a week at my house.
Edit: Okay, I got a drive-by "not helpful" tag. Let's see if I can make this review better. This is a typical "girl with a guitar" album with a style leaning toward folk with rock influence, though it's by no means a rock-and-roll album. It's not overproduced, and the songs show good emotion, but also some light humor. Seems a little fruitless to describe the music in detail on this website when you can click on the buttons above and hear song snippets for yourself.

"God's no rebel, He's a handy man." A spiritual meditation that works on several layers. "I'm an elegant trial underneath hard times." Poetry as narrative calls for time out to consider several implications, yet I left thinking there's more, much more to return to. Fine work. Shoutout for the poetic humor of The Sunday Song ("it's lonely at the top, it's lonely at the bottom"). [...]
