4.0 out of 5 stars war dog is a good book
I liked the book War Dog because I like war themed things, dogs, and also animals. War Dog is a good book because it shows the love for the dog, and shows many different views of war. It was cool how Jet, the dog, could sniff out enemies and survivors of war. It is a fun and interesting book to read.

2.0 out of 5 stars This book was not to my liking, it might be to yours!!!
War Dog is a great story for young readers interested in dogs and history. Jet, the black lab will probably be remembered by reading this novel by Martin Booth. She is in WW2. I found this book was okay, but I have read better books about animals. This book basically describes Jet's life as a normal dog. This book was actually pretty informal, although I still disliked...

5.0 out of 5 stars A realistic and exciting story for dog lovers, June 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: War Dog (Hardcover)
This novel was one of the best books I've read in a while. The main character is a black labrador named Jet who is seperated from her owner when he's arrested for poaching right before WWII. Jet is requisitioned by the Army and begins her adventure in Dunkirk where she and Turpin (her new handler) fight against the Germans. She is soon moved to England and then to Italy where she saves many lives and becomes a hero. There weren't any dull parts in the story, and I also learned a lot of history. I'd recommend this story to anyone, young or old, who loves animals and happy endings.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: War Dog (Hardcover)
If your like me and love dogs this book is an amazing book for you. The book is about an army that is going to war aginst Germany and there leting dogs be in it. This is how Jet, the dog, got in to the army. At the begening Jets origanal owner was a poacher, someone who hunts in a way that is aginst the law. One day when he was poaching with Jet the police caught him and took him to jail and Jet was put in a cage and Turnip was looking for a dog because he was in the army and he needed a dog and Jet had been turned down several times so Turnip took Jet and used her in the army. Turnip had'nt knoun Jet was a pouching dog so she was already trained. So one day when they were training the dogs the captian saw Jet and Turnip training and the captian was impressed so he said they were going to war. In war Jet and Turnip were both shot but they made it and Americ, after a long hard war, defeated Germany.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and informative - and very emotional! Great book!, June 12, 2011
This review is from: War Dog (Hardcover)
Martin Book understands the canine mind and he also has done his homework about the various ways dogs helped people during WW II. You can learn a lot about both dogs and their role in the war effort by reading this book.

But, just as valuable, you will become lost in a very good story. I listened to the book on audio cassettes during a long commute and I found myself having a hard time waiting for the next trip to find out what happened next.

The story is good and the characters really come alive, from the men who work with Jet to the folks on the sidelines.

And, if you are like me, a dog lover, you will probably get very emotional about all the things Jet and her handlers go through, particularly at Dunkirk, when Jet and her handler have waded out into the English Channel, waiting to be picked up by rescue boats. The tide rises higher and higher, and Jet's handler holds her in his arms and then drapes her over his shoulders. And then the German planes arrive. Whew!

Please read this book - you will not be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book about a dog, March 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: War Dog (Hardcover)
If there were more stars I could choose, I would give War Dog 20 stars, for Martin Booth's fantastic writing and good plot. This book is a gripping fast-paced story, full of authentic detail. I think the dog Jet is a very interesting dog. She soon catches the reader's love. The story takes place in World War II. The horrors and dangers of war are not portrayed. I like this book because it's about a black Labrador, Jet, trained by a young English poacher, who serves her country and becomes a real war hero. This is novel for dog lovers like me; actually this book is good for everybody.

I found this book was okay, but I have read better books about animals. This book basically describes Jet's life as a normal dog. This book was actually pretty informal, although I still disliked it very much. If your more of a history type person and you like animals, War Dog is for you! Jet is very couragous and kind throughout the book. She helped many people, who were depending on her. First, she was taken away from her original owner who is an English poacher named Fred. She goes through three owners until she is sent home to England for good. So, I really wouldn't read War Dog again, but maybe you would!

A Review by James

When Jet, the dog, was in the army after his owner went to jail she was a great dog. She saved lives and helped the army. She got hurt once and awhile but immediately went back into active duty as a patrol dog. Soon Jet's owner that went to jail joined in the army and found jet. He didn't take over and was her patrol keeper but he did see her once in awhile. The book ended up the owner telling the class about jet and her heroism and her courage.
Well this book wasn't a joyful book for me but maybe for you. This book has dogs and also about war, how war is bad and such. It was hard to fallow, but I am a slow reader. This book was only a 133 pages but yet it took a long time for me. One thing that I did like about this book is that it set during the beginning of WW2. When the Americans weren't exactly in the war but had some Americans fight for the British army. The dog part of the book wasn't really a interesting thing for me, Boring.
If you really like dogs and like ww2 then this is the book for you, the book is WAR DOG and get it if you want, I give this book a 3 star rating.
