This book is a re-thinking of the destructive effects of prohibition, the so-called "War On Drugs". It shows the fallacies of our present policies and the impossibility of winning a war in which the government has taken both sides, one overtly and the other covertly. This book also shows the terrible destructive human price that we as a country are paying to sustain this ineffective, cannibalistic and destructive set of punitive laws we now live under. The war on drugs is the contemporary moral equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition, and it is as well a huge multi-billion dollar tax-payer subsidy to organized crime.

I just want to say that Max Hartstein is telling the absolute truth about the corruption in this country centered around "their" war on drugs, which is, in reality, a ruse to fool the American people that they are working to get drugs under control, when in reality the government in their many crafty ways are actually encouraging drugs to be imported into this country. Mr. Hartstein is being a straight shooter about his proposition on how to eliminate at least 60 % of our prison population. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and I can only hope more whistle blowers can stand up and proclaim truth like Mr. Hartstein has so proficciently done. A+++John Hiatt
