Brief history with excellent coverage of electronic warfare,
This review is from: War In The Fourth Dimension (Hardcover)
This is a briefed version of The History of US Electronic Warfarevolume III from the same author. It coveres the US electronic warfare history since early 1960s till 2000. This is not a thick book and with more than 20 chapters, so you could image each chapter only takes some pages. This is not a book full with math, equations and theories. If you are looking for detail data and information of the EW systems in the past 40 years, this is not a book for you. If you have no idea of those math, equations and theories but you like to know the history of the EW in the past 40 years, especailly during the clod war, with contents not boring, you find a good book to read. I stopped reading other books and magazines and spent almost three weeks to finish this book. I already had some background reading of modern combat, missile systems and electronic warfare, but I have to say this book really opened my eyes to more interesting history and information of electronic warfare. The author covers not only the conflicts in the past where EW equipment made things differently, he also covers development of theories and equipment parallel to the cold war and conflicts. You also could find not only how to fight radar system, also how to intercept radio or telementry transmission and find usful information. I believe this book could help readers to understand electronic warfare is not just fighting radar, it's a lot more. My conclusion : if you alreadt have The History of US Electronic Warfare, then you don;t need this book since that one covers more details. If you don't have that one or you don't need too much details but just some fun, this is the book you would like to consider.

The book completely overlooks the role of Tactical EW,
By
This review is from: War In The Fourth Dimension (Hardcover)
Dr. Price discusses fairly well the role of CIA and the Strategic Air Command. However, nothing was mentioned about Tactical Electronic Warfare and the role played by the valient B-66 air and ground crews who participated in the B-66 Destroyer program in the European, Pacific, Southeast Asia between 1951 to 1976.
The EB-66 electronic jamming and RB-66 reconnaissance missions conducted over North Vietnam in the "invisible war" that was fought during the Southeast Asia conflict from 1965 to early 1974. Several major Vietnam War U.S. bombing campaigns were supported by EB-66 units includeing: Rolling Thunder and Linebacker. More information is available about Tactical EW on the B-66 Historical website: http://B66.info
