There are not words to describe the courage it will take anyone, conservative or liberal, left, right or center, to read this book from cover to cover and sit with the new world you will be looking at afterwards. Ahmed, through more than *six hundred* footnotes, political and historical analysis, quotes of everyone from European and Afghani political analysts to New York stockbrokers to American congressman and FBI agents--and some of the most erudite, plain language scholarship I have ever read--irrevocably changes one's view of history and current events such that one is left with the profoundly disturbing fact not by saying that his main theory is true, but by proving unqeustionably that it is POSSIBLE.

This is not an America-hating rant, the likes of which would make it the international antithesis (i.e. siamese twin) of much of the pro-American "literature" coming from the far right nowadays. This is scholarship the likes of which can only demand a paradigm shift in one's thinking, regardless of how you choose to reinterpret his fact-finding when you put the book down. If you've ever wondered what the Catholic bishops must have felt when reading the work of Galileo for the first time, or the Protestant community of the 19th century reading the work of Darwin, or what the Newtonian physics scientific community felt seeing Einstein prove his point about relativity, the scholarship of Ahmed will let you know in perhaps the most politically frightening way possible. Ahmed in fact, does not rely on the rogue scholars we are familiar with for the bulk of his work. He quotes BODY OF SECRETS: INSIDE THE NSA, the work of Gore Vidal like THE GOLDEN AGE, and 9-11 by Noam Chomsky as mere redundancies, adding to the mountain of evidence he has generated leading one to the inevitable conclusion that is the book's theme.

In the end, whether or not you choose to follow Ahmed to the end of his theories, you will be left with a totally new understanding of the secret architecture and raison d'etre of both modern history and modern war. If you didn't know that FDR knew the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor because he set America up to be bombed in 1941 in order to get the isolationist minded American populace to join World War Two--and how he did it--you will learn it here. If you didn't know that there were plans in the military (kept classified until the Freedom of Information Act of 1975) of terrorizing and even killing American citizens in Miami and throughout Florida in such a way that it would look like Castro's military did it to justify an American invasion of Cuba in 1962, you will learn it here. If you didn't know that the total absence of military response to the hijacking of American planes before they hit the World Trade Center on Septemeber 11th is something that has NEVER happened before in FAA or military history, you will learn it here. If you had no idea of the unusual and otherwise inexplicably heavy trade on the stock market that took place days before Septemeber 11th regarding Airline and oil stocks, you will learn it here.

And if you can find a way to digest all of that, plus

1) hundreds of other provable historical/foreign policy facts of the European/American 20th Century from a plethora of credible sources--in and out of America--he brings to light,

2) the political/economic agendas behind the secret psychological architecture of modern day war explained with amazing clarity,

3) the revealing of our current Administration's relationship with International Oil cartels for the past three generations, and

4) the seemingly infinite number of both otherwise inexplicable anamolies AND examples of unprecedented ineptitude regarding both the intelligence community and the military's failure to prevent 9/11 from happening, WITHOUT coming to the same conclusions the writer of this book does...than God bless you.

I cannot.

This is just a little bit bigger than a phony land deal in Arkansas and some oral sex in the Oval Office. Ahmed makes it clear through the WAR ON FREEDOM that it is time for a full investigation of our Administration. If for no other reason as it will be the only thing that could make this nightmare of a book go away. There are some books every American should read to strengthen their own mind or enrich their own lives. This is one book every American needs to read in order to save our Nation's soul. Remain ignorant at the cost of your own freedom.

Information overload is what the reader will experience very quickly. The author (a British Scholar) in addition to his own observations, cites well over 500 footnotes including articles, interviews, Senate committee hearing transcripts, FBI interviews, and other news sources.

Because of the gravity of the subject matter I believe the author has done this on purpose, realizing that any intelligent reader, will most likely discriminate between what they perceive to be a truly valid and vital source, and what could possibly be dismissed as speculation, or simply independent observation.

In other words, even if you threw out half of the information, what you would still be left with is an overwhelming amount of credible information and facts, that should at the very least, (assuming you're not brain dead), raise some serious questions in your mind, even if you are the most cynical skeptic.

Many people still believe that the Sept 11th attacks were not preceded by any type of clear and imminent warnings of some type. This is hardly the case and the author does an excellent job in proving this. After watching the 911 Commission hearings that were held recently, the questions and observations posed by some of the panel members confirm this without a doubt.

There is some essential background information on Afghanistan the author takes you though before he gets into the meat of things. This is necessary in order to understand what drives American foreign policy and interests. He then takes you through what our intelligence community knew, and when they knew it.

Chapter 5 is the most damning, as he dissects the complete abandonment of standard operating procedures that were in place that fateful day Sept.11, 2001, and alerts you to a little known fact about the `official version'.

The book also covers our particular brand of "friendship" with the Saudis, the corporate money trail, plus much, much, more...

It took me 2 months to scour through over 150 of the footnotes I thought the most important, and in doing so I came upon much more information than I ever thought I would, stemming from various sources including trade reports, gas and oil investor news, as well a first hand statements mentioned in the book.

And I have to say, that after reading and confirming what this book reveals about the true US/Taliban relationship prior to 9-11, that it is clear without a doubt, that we have an incredibly selfish and self serving foreign relationship policy, in which we will be "friends" with almost anyone as long as it serves our corporate or military interests, regardless of their human rights record. And only after the friendship sours because of lack of cooperation, will we then launch a campaign exposing them if it will serve in promoting support for disciplinary action.

This may not be an easy book for some Americans to read, and I am sure that some will scoff but fail to look any further. But the case is presented before you and the author's work is done. The burden is now on you, the reader, to investigate his sources and footnotes, and determine whether this book is merely biased propaganda, or a compilation worthy of serious consideration, or indeed .. the awful truth.

I am going to be blunt: The research behind this book will effectively recast history with respect to September 11, 2001. This brilliant UK-based author has compiled the relevant research from over 700 resources in the mainstream media and methodically and meticulously presented what the U.S. media and our government has refused to do - provide a comprehensive analysis of the events that surround that tragic day in September. I must confess, this is the most disturbing book that I have every read, and the implications about this government are so dire that it will bring tears to the eyes of the most hardened of men. I am an American and a patriot, but what the current Bush administration has done is set this country on an unavoidable collision course into a national crisis the likes of which we have not seen since the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln. This immensely important book is a virtual indictment of the current administration, and we will soon have a crisis of legitimacy, trust and confidence in our own government. I cannot begin to articulate the importance of this book to every American who wants to understand why 3000 of our fellow citizens were murdered on the that awful morning, thus I will simply post a few statements from the author and quotes from our founding fathers in the hope that God will bless this country during our impending national crisis:

"As far as the facts on record are concerned, the best explanation of them, in the opinion of this author, is one that points directly to U.S. state responsibility for the events of September 11th 2001. A detailed review of the facts points not only to Kabul, but to Riyadh, Islamabad and most principally, Washington. Furthermore, in the opinion of this author, the documentation presented in this study strongly suggests, though not necessarily conclusively, that significant elements of U.S. government, military and intelligence agencies had exclusive advance warning of the September 11th attacks, and were in various ways complicit in those attacks. This is certainly not a desirable inference, but it is one that best explains the available data.

At the very least then, the facts on record demonstrate with certainty an ongoing U.S. policy of willful and reckless indifferences to American lives, motivated fundamentally by strategic and economic interests. This policy has been relentlessly pursued, regardless of the dangers to American lives, of which the U.S. policy-making establishment is fully aware. This policy therefore amounts, even at the lowest possible level of involvement, to deliberate if indirect complicity in the September 11th attacks, on the part of the Bush administration.

Although it is the opinion of this author that the documentation gathered strongly indicates the conscious complicity of the Bush administration in the 9/11 attacks, it should once again be emphasized that this stuffy does not aim to provide a conclusive or exhaustive analysis. It is primarily intended to collate the innumerable facts surrounding the events of September 11th, of which the public is largely unaware, and clarify them with extensive documentation.

These facts have simply not been addressed in an adequate fashion in the media, and the conventional version of events officially espoused by the Bush administration, and slavishly repeated by the media and academia, fails to account for or explain them. Most commentators, including supposed critics of U.S. policy, are content to arbitrarily dismiss any discussion of the role of the U.S. government in the 9/11 as irrelevant. But as this study demonstrates, the facts on record are far too important in their implications to be dismisses by anyone who is serious about understanding the events of September 11th.

In the final analysis, then, this study points to a host of unanswered questions and blatant anomalies that U.S. government, military and intelligence agencies must be forced to answer through a public inquiry. Such an inquiry is clearly a matter of the greatest urgency, and must be demanded as such by all sectors of society."

Unable to demolish the heavily documented factual information in this book, which many people find understandably troubling, critics have sought to put this carefully researched work down by stating that there is no smoking gun and it does not prove its case. There are plenty of smoking guns and the author was not seeking to prove a case. He has supplied an abundance of information which vitally needs to be taken to the next level, that of a meticulous independent investigation.

Some of the troubling points raised which so many find intolerable to confront that they seek to avoid their implications altogether are:

1) The many warnings received by the FBI and other agencies of the U.S. Government, including from Israel's Mossad. While many media sources decried as paranoiac the claim from Arab nations that Israelis stayed away from the World Trade Center on 9-11, it has been documented that the Mossad warned Washington and that a business half-owned by the Mossad terminated its lease before the attack, apparently aware that it was forthcoming based on the same warnings U.S. Government sources spurned.

2) The tremendous profits earned through put options based on huge drops in American and United airline stocks as of September 11. This option windfall was totally unprecedented in Wall Street annals and almost certainly had to be predetermined based on advance knowledge. No other plausible explanation suffices.

3) The report in European sources beginning with Paris newspaper Le Figaro, owned ironically by the controversial Carlyle Group, that the former head of ISI, the Pakistani intelligence agency, provided the lead September 11 skyjacker Atta with $100,000. The former ISI head quietly resigned after 9-11 and nothing has been said about including him and this incident in any foregoing investigation of 9-11.

4) Links between the intelligence establishment and the terrorist skyjackers, as well as the two mysterious flight training schools in Venice, Florida run by Dutch nationals, one of whom received sponsorship support from none other than Catherine Harris.

5) The fact that, contrary to FAA guidelines, the planes which crashed into the Pentagon and in a Pennslyvania field were not scrambled. This routine measure was undertaken in the case of golfer Payne Stewart when his plane encountered difficulties, but not in the case of the post-World Trade Center terrorist destruction. Cheney lied on the record when he reported, "This was the president's call." It is a pro forma call based on FAA regulations.

6) U.S. Government archival evidence that an invasion of Afghanistan had been planned as far in advance of 9-11 as 1997, a point which needs to be carefully explored.

These are some of the points made, and which need to be addressed by an independent investigator. The Bush Administration telegraphed its intentions by selecting initially definitive international dealmaker and Carlyle Group operative Henry Kissinger to head the official government 9-11 investigation. The current chairman, Tom Kean, is a former New Jersey governor with ties to the oil industry.

It's all here, all the news that you won't find on CNN-FOX-NBC et al, although an astonishing amount of stuff WAS published in papers like the Washington Post, and many of Ahmed's sources are mainstream. But while bits of the puzzle may leak out in the mainstream US media, the conclusion -- that the Bush administration, "through its actions and inactions, effectively facilitated the attacks, protected those responsible, blocked attempts to prevent the attacks, and maintained close political, financial, military, and intelligence ties to key figures who supported those responsible...." is unspeakable in the dominant US media, and to a large extent, even in the alternative media. This is unfortunate, because this is one of the most important stories of the last hundred years. We need to wake up to the monstrosity that our federal government has become, after 50+ years of catering to the military industrial complex. If we are ever going to reclaim our democracy and re-establish government of by and for the people instead of government of by and for the corporations and wealthy, we must be willing to unflinchingly face the crimes our government has committed and demand their accountability.

I laugh at warnings not to read this book. This IS America, isn't it? It's well documented, and makes the case that the GOVERNMENT, NOT the United States, may very well be complicit in 9/11 -- by omission, if not co-mission. It makes a very clear case regarding who benefited from 9/11 -- and who continues to. These words are warnings we all need to hear -- and read.

One of the most interesting points is made regarding the illegality of the U.S. government activities these days, and how they fly in the face of the Constitution -- and how we all seem to be just looking the other way (particularly people who would warn you not to read this book!). States' rights have taken an especially painful hit as the Federal Government continues to expand to grotesque proportions, giving the lie to any "Conservative" stature the Republicans may claim.

My only complaint is that the book tends to repeat itself a lot -- which may need to happen to some extent to get these points across. Still, I had the feeling that it was written on a PC and the printout was never given a good final editing.

Just the same, it's important information, well researched and documented. No one has to believe it all -- but if you limit your information and news to the mass media, you deserve whatever you get.

This extraordinarily well written and extremely well documented book provides an invaluable account of the events leading to the September 11 attacks. Nafeez argues that the failure of U.S. intelligence and the so called SOP (standard operating procedures) is highly suspicious and bewildering. According to strict FAA regulations, should any aeroplane deviate from its course, military jets are immediately sent to intercept the given plane. From the time the plane was hi-jacked, it took approximately 50 minutes before it crashed into the Twin Towers. According to Nafeez, the time it takes to dispatch a miltary jet from any given point in the U.S. is estimated roughly 5 minutes. The fact that these standard operating procedures failed on this very day makes one wonder whether or not U.S. intelligence really made an honest effort to intercept the hi-jacked plane. Also, the U.S. intelligence received extensive forewarnings that an unprecedented attack was going to take place in mid September targetting key buildings in the U.S. These warnings were blatantly ignored and their importance was downplayed by senior U.S. officials. Displaying a flagrant disregard for these imminent threats, these senior officials clearly obstructed a thorough investigation into the relevance of the warnings, an investigation which could have averted the attacks. The evidence presented in Nafeez's book is abundant, exhaustive and irrefutable and thus should not be overlooked. However, Nafeez claims that the evidence presented in his book is by no means conclusive but it is only his thesis supported by numerous facts. Granted, many questions regarding 9/11 still remain unanswered but this book offers an indispensable insight into the events leading and following the atrocious attack. Nafeez also theorizes why so many people worldwide loathe U.S. foreign policy and not as is often incorrectly claimed by corporate madia western modernity and prosperity. A great number of people throughout the world find certain elements of U.S. foreign policy highly unjust and discriminatory. According to Nafeez, it is going to be virtually impossible to obliterate terrorism unless U.S. alters its foreign policy. This book is an intellectual tour de force and in my view irrefutably the best documented book on the subject matter. Strongly recommended reading.

Both my daughter and nephew were attending college in NYC on September 11, 2001. I am chilled by the reality that either one or both could have been victims that day. Having just read War on Freedom I am now outraged and find it incomprehensible that the American public has failed to demand the full and independant investigation proposed in this very important book. There are no single assertions contained therein which Mr. Ahmed fails to substantiate with credible sources. My reaction has been to e-mail Senator Daschele and my own Senate representatives and, to date, I have received no response. Meanwhile, the media and the White House throw about terms like "intelligence errors" to diguise the treasonous events leading up to 9-11 and thereafter. In the name of the "War on Terrorism" the Bush administration has engaged in an attack on our Constitutional freedoms and has hence taken the battle to the American people. The causes of the 9-11 tragedy are conveniently ignored but for the courageous works of writers like Mr. Ahmed.

Ignore the losers who post 1 star reviews. I find it hilarious that these phony patriots dare to call this book "propaganda" and people who read it "brainwashed" when it is painfully obvious that these morons are the ones that are brainwashed and complete propaganda slaves.

Isn't it sad that a guy from Bangladesh that lives in the U.K. has to write a book in order to alert Americans to the incredible danger they're in? People that bash this book are the very people propaganda was designed for. I once read a quote that said "The purpose of propaganda is not to fool the critical thinker, it's purpose is to give the moral coward a reason not to have to think." How very true.

All these 9/11 books aren't about bashing Bush and they are not anti-American. How can you call something anti-American when it's purpose is to wake you up out of your television-induced trance so you can do something to save the country you "love" so much? Bush and Cheney are just the latest in a long line of gangsters that are slected, not elected, to run this country.

So all you "sunshine patriots" keep believing in this organized crime syndicate that we have that calls itself a government and don't say a damn word when they take all your rights and turn you into a full-fledged slave. You deserve it.

The government did it, this book proves it. Get it.

Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed has assembled in one location the most complete set of information regarding the events leading up to and the day of the 9-11 attacks. The data is not pretty but is vitally important. For example, with 2 combat ready fighter squadrons in the, "highest state of alert" at Andrews Air Force Base, just 10 miles away from Washington D.C. and with at least 40 minutes of warning (actually over an hour) these jets were not scrambled to intercept (i.e. make visual contact with) the plane that flew into the Pentagon as standard NORAD operating procedures would demand. Unless and until a complete, public and INDEPENDENT investigation is conducted, the data leads me to believe that our government at least allowed the attacks to occur. Certainly the conduct of our leaders since 9-11 and the huge political currency they have reaped lends credance to this theory. People interested in this subject should also see... and follow those links. There are lots of people asking very simple questions that our corporate controlled media is trying its best to bury. Please take a proactive position in this matter. It is not an exaggeration to say that our freedom is at stake.
