Book Description

War is the fourth in a series of stand-alone novellas exploring concepts related to the Rare Earth Hypothesis in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

The crew of the Rift Valley are being chased through a star cluster by marauding aliens intent on harvesting their genetic diversity. With limited options, being out-gunned and out-paced by the alien warships, the Rift is running out of options.

All four novellas in this series can be found in the book GALACTIC EXPLORATION

At the author's request, I read the beta of War, the fourth installment of the Galactic Exploration series this past weekend. As it is difficult to separate the pieces of the story now that I've read them all, this will be kind of an all encompassing review for the project as a whole and as I feel the series was intriguing, enjoyable and well written, I'm giving it 5 stars.

War had more punch and tension than some the previous installments which were more world (so to speak) and character building and I really enjoyed seeing it all come together with the action and more tension than we've seen in the previous novellas. War was very descriptive and even some of the portions that weren't actually action seemed that way, but I'd have to spoil the story to tell you how that was achieved.

All in all, Mr. Cawdron really did an excellent job of bringing the characters together from the other installments and integrating them in this latest novella for a chance to mess with your head a little. For the first time the characters from the previous installments are together (in a manner of speaking) and it was good to see them all struggling and working together for the same goals - survival and freedom. For those who have read the three prior novellas, Anderson, Trixie, Berry and Diana are all present as they encounter what so many yearn to search for and may be afraid to find. War was a good read and I think some of the complaints I've seen in reviews from others (and that includes myself) that there wasn't enough and they were left hanging will easily be resolved by reading the four novellas together.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly great series! June 14, 2012

This series is great! WAR ties in very nicely with the first three installments in this series. If I was intrigued before about the "Bio-Borgs" I am even more intrigued now about the Masters! I want to know more! I like Mr. Cawdron's crafting of the story line, and I love the unexpected twists, followed by fast action. The author is a very, very smart writer. He truly leaves the reader wanting for more and wondering about what is coming next...

Note: if you want to truly Understand the story arc, it would be a good idea to read the previous installments first...

Good job, and write, write like the wind!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read June 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
War is a five star read. It is science fiction that doesn't pander. I do not want to spoil even a moments reading, so I leave it to the authors synopsis for the over-view of the plot. I will tell you why I give War 5 stars.

War is the fourth and longest in a series of novellas by author Peter Cawdron. It picks up where Trixie and Me (the second book) left off, and picks up on common themes and characters from all of the books in this series. The basis of the series is galactic exploration by a future Earth.
As a disclaimer, I have read each of the stories preceding War. Though the stories are strong and well crafted, and as a result stand well on their own, I found my experience in reading War was enhanced by having the first three in the back of my mind.
Novellas do not give an author a lot of words to build their story. It is that fact that impresses me most about War and the rest of the stories in this series. It is remarkable that such a complete well rounded story can be told in so few words. There are three elements I require in good science fiction; believable characters, putting me into the story with great description, and of course science. All three are there in force. The characters are believable and familiar without being stereotypical sci-fi humans and aliens. The visual description on every account is well done. There is enough to set the scene without dictating what the reader should see in the mind's-eye. The science is something else in this series. Astronomy and physics are meat and potatoes in War, and future technology is believably extrapolated, clever and well described. I am quite impressed with the fact that I got a real sense of time and space on a galactic scale. War is fraught with tension and intensity, but one never forgets that everything is happening for the characters over long periods of time and unimaginable distances. However, for Trixie and the crew of the Rift Valley, The galaxy isn't big enough, and time passes far to quickly as they travel to War.
