Product Description

Background War Gods was developed by a team led by George Petro (lead programmer) and Jack Haeger (lead artist). It was very similar to Midway's more famous Mortal Kombat series in featuring a great deal of gore and horrific fatalities. The array of playable characters featured gods (or, more accurately, immortals). One featured character in the game was Anubis, the Ancient Egyptian guardian of the underworld, and the Jackal God. Other characters were more reminiscent of Roman gladiators such as "Maximus", the houngan "Voodoo", the questionable Kabuki Jo and the obviously fictional cybernetic "CY-5". Plot Many, many years ago, a spaceship carrying precious life-giving ore crashes to Earth. The chunks of ore scatter across the planet, and over the years, ten humans each find a stone of the ore, and are transformed into powerful beings, War Gods. And now, they are fighting each other to possess all the stones and become the ultimate super-warrior.

War Gods as far as Vintage Nintendo 64 games go this one is a classic fight game in the same vein as Mortal Combat which somewhat overshadowed War Gods it's fun with Characters that are exciting and it's fun learning the old moves again.

3.0 out of 5 stars mortal kombat clone, February 20, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: War Gods (Video Game)
war gods is a "mortal kombat" clone that doesn't do much for the fighting genre. admittedly i haven't been a mortal kombat fan since the original arcade. so i picked up war gods for cheap to see if it would surpase "mortal kombat" in any way. if it did it was only slightly. the controls are sloppy and the a.i. is relentless, pounding you into submission before you can even create a plan of attack. there are, of course, differing levels of difficulty, but i pretty much saw all that was necessary to move on. graphically, it speaks like a "mortal kombat" game. i think this is because the same people, all or in part, that did "mortal kombat" had something to do with this game. i'm wondering if these were just excess "mortal kombat" characters that didn't have a home, so they just whipped up some story line and let it fly. should you buy this game? no. if you are a die hard mortal kombat fan and you just can't get enough of the mortally kombatty goodness. so much so that you bought "tao feng" on the x-box. then yes.
