More About the Author

I was born on August 29, 1946, making me one of the famous "baby boomer" generation. I attended Hillside High School in New Jersey, then got my B.S. degree in mathematics at Stevens Institute of Technology. I later obtained by M.S. in mathematics at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where I taught math for two years. I was working on my Ph.D. in Number Theory at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago when I met my (future) wife Phyllis in 1972. We were married in 1973 and I left college to start my own business. I ran three very successful corporations after leaving college and did some writing on the side. When I was 40, I decided I wanted to concentrate more on writing fiction, which I had done in college but had abandoned afterwards. So I started writing novels in 1986. My first book, THE DEVIL'S AUCTION, was published in 1998 and I've written another 15 novels since then. I'm probably best known as the author of a popular trilogy I wrote for White Wolf Games entitled THE MASQUERADE OF THE RED DEATH. These three novels have been published in a number of different languages (including French, German, Spanish and Hungarian) and I've gotten well over 1,000 fan letters about them since they first appeared.

I also have written 17 non-fiction books, many of them in the pop-science field with my friend, Lois H. Gresh. And, in my spare time, I've edited around 150 anthologies. I like to keep busy!

4.0 out of 5 stars It was geat; however, the ending could have been better., March 30, 1999

This was a great novel I liked it alot. I wonder though why the ending was not done better. It seemed that the author was in a hurry and needed something to finish it. Thank God; however, the author brought back Dire McCann at the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good ending, but..., April 12, 2011
This review is from: War in Heaven (Horizon War Trilogy , Vol 3) (Paperback)
This last volume of "Horizon War" is really good, a work worth of Weinberg. Notwithstanding that fact, there are some loose ends in the midst of all the nice plotting and narrative. Why Ezra`s family was even mentioned? Why leave the pattern-clone identity a mistery? What are the shapechangers and what they want? This approach kind of reminds me of "Lost" (ok, this book came a way before that TV show) and the frustration of many who followed the story from the beginning to the end to nothing. The "Red Death" trilogy explained everything in the end and was fantastic! That last line: "you reader decide who the pattern-clone is in you world, because I, the author, know my truth" is particularly upsetting if you are not a Mage the Ascension player. Also, there was no need of Mccain in the Epilogue.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one good novel, May 10, 1999

Yes! Don't you just love it when mages battle? Finally the agents from the Technocracy and the Traditions meet under the most dire circumstances, fighting a common enemy. The stakes are high, the losses are great, and Weinberg actually manages to make us feel empathy for a cyborg! This trilogy is even better than Weinberg's Masquerade of The Red Death, I strongly recommend it. I would have enjoyed seeing a little more Paradox though, but you can't get everything. Read it carefully, and see if you can figure out who the Master of Harmony was. Hopefully Weinberg will give us the answer sometime in the future, until then, read and rejoice.
