Book Description

October 30, 2010
WAR IS A LIE is a thorough refutation of every major argument used to justify wars, drawing on evidence from numerous past wars, with a focus on those wars that have been most widely defended as just and good. This is a handbook of sorts, a manual to be used in debunking future lies before future wars have a chance to begin. For more information visit WarIsALie.org.

About the Author

David Swanson is an American author, blogger, and anti-war activist. He served as press secretary for Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich's 2004 presidential campaign. He was a key figure in making the Downing Street Memo known across America. The memo, the leaked minutes of a meeting of the British war cabinet, exposed the lies behind the war in Iraq and was a key element in turning the majority of American people against the war in Iraq. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

"David Swanson has written a fascinating account of how peace once became the law of the land. It is particularly pertinent in the era of the Endless War, by giving encouragement and suggestions of a path forward to those who want to give peace a chance." --Liz Holtzman, former member of the U.S. Congress.

"Swanson's book is far more uplifting and inspiring than virtually any other book in its genre, as it devotes itself to laying out a detailed plan for how American citizens -- through the activism to which he has devoted himself -- can bring about a rejuvenation of our political values." --Glenn Greenwald, Salon.com.

"David Swanson is an antidote to the toxins of complacency and evasion. He insists on rousing the sleepwalkers, confronting the deadly prevaricators and shining a bright light on possibilities for a truly better world." --Norman Solomon, author of War Made Easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Important, Destined to be a Classic November 16, 2010
Format:Paperback
Activist David Swanson is well respected in the anti-war community as a man who walks his talk in a bold, committed, solid way, that he is a principled leader.
Now we must add to that list of credentials authorship of an important, destined to be classic book.
War Is A Lie addresses the web of lies, the tabu subjects, the false claims, the mythic messages that are hollow and empty and it lays waste to them.

Swanson's book is a (I've never used the term to describe a book before) Tour de Force, an intellectual accomplishment that lays out the truths about war and the lies that support in a way that every peace activist, every anti-war organization and group must digest and frankly, use as the tools to take the arguments against war to a new more effective level.

if there are awards for brilliant books that explode new ways to oppose the evils of t his world, then David should sweep the field this year.

One more thing. It is an exceptional accomplishment to present a book with such important ideas. It is another thing to write extraordinarily well, so, on page after page, the words are quotable, rising off the page with vivacity.

"This book is revolutionary, and certainly truth-telling in a remarkable and brave way. The writing is so clear and easy-to-read, too. A pleasure to read, except that the content is so devastating, because it all means that not only are we utterly deceived but our entire reality is based on that deception. Swanson has gotten to the core of something. The only thing is I'm not sure he realizes how hopeless it is to expect a change -- and yet that is part of the appeal of his writing: his hopefulness in the face of lies and repression and denial." - Jennifer Van Bergen, author of The Twilight of Democracy: The Bush Plan for America.

David Swanson's eye-opening Truth about Wars is a Must-Read for the Millions of US who reject Bush's ghost-written Lies

5.0 out of 5 stars War Makes us Poor November 21, 2010
Format:Paperback
David Swanson's in-depth analysis of the fact that war is perpetrated and perptuated by just a few people in power, to the detriment of everyone on earth and our planet earth itself, is a must read that will inspire the reader to take action against this huge injustice. If it hasn't been clear before, that war makes us poor both economically and morally, it will be clear to any reader of David's new book, "War is Lies". It is difficult to comprehend that all the warnings we've had for decades, (Gen. Dwight Esienhower had much to say about this and put it very succinctly when he said, "As a soldier who experienced war I must say that war is brutality, futility and stupidity.")about the war-profiteering industries running our governement, but David shows us how we have have been the victims of lies by people we trusted, and that we can no longer be apathetic about confronting the insanity of war. I am a "peacemaker" using whatever gifts I've been given, to write picture books and create games that teach children why violence and war is not the "power" to be emulated as they've been taught in video games, cartoons, and more. There are no "winners" in violence at any level, but the postive climate of peaceful relationships is where creative cooperation flourishes for the benefit of all. My book "The Planet Gazimbo in Galaxy Zamz" is obviously in a differnt, more simple format than David's, but I'm happy to see that it has also gotten 5-star reviews on the Amazon site!
Best Wishes to you, David. With your permission I will recommend your book on my website,
peacepowerpress.net I hope your book soars to "Best Seller" quickly! We need your wise insights and inspiration to be exposed to millions of people!
Peace and Best Wishes,
Frank Swift

Do you think any wars can ever be justified?
I believe in the libertarian credo of never initiating force. However, if someone attacks you for the purpose of conquest and without provication then one must defend one's self.
