A EARLY DEATH METAL CLASSIC.,
By
This review is from: War Master (Audio CD)
Ive listened to most of their work and this is the bands best album to date in my opinion. The songs are not ultra fast but they are very heavy and catchy. Some great guitar work accompanied by awesome solos which make the songs really stand out.Warmaster deserves to be in the death metal hall of fame alongside such albums as altars of madness by morbid angel and symphonies of sickness by carcass.I would recommend getting this album to any fan of the band or anyone interested in some really good death metal.METAL RULES!!!

A Death Metal Classic,
By Chaz233 (CA, USA) - See all my reviews

Nowadays that death metal is in a serious creative crisis, albums like Warmaster sound stronger than ever. Bolt Thrower's war metal is brutal, original, unforgetable, merciless. While their previous 2 albums (In Battle There is No Law and Realm of Chaos) were hardly polished products, while still being good, Warmaster was their first accomplished release. Bolt Thrower like no one else capture in music the brutal monstrosity that is war. Their songs are like unrelentless machine-gun hail, without resorting to speed for the sake of speed. I guess this is what other reviewers refer to by 'monotony'. Yes, you won't get hyper-technical never-repeat-the-same-note-twice sillyness. That is not what Bolt Thrower is about. It's about great riffs that will make you headbang till your neck goes stiff. In a market where 90% of the bands are indistinguisheable, you will never mistake Bolt Thrower with someone else. Their sound is low, their drums perfect for the type of music, the vocals ideal, and the guitarwork fantastic. The production is crips and lets you distinctly hear every instrument. Get Warmaster and ...For Victory, crank up the volume, and be annihilated by the war machine that is Bolt Thrower!

the 4th crusade's twin,
By "jpauld14" (Round Rock, Texas United States) - See all my reviews

i love bolt thrower. when you hear them for the first time, they might sound like a boring, run-of-the-mill death band, but at further inspection you'll find that they sound like no one but bolt thrower. it might seem boring, because these days death metal has become much more ferocious and brutal than it was 11 years ago when bolt was in their prime. their style is disciplined, sustained, and full bodied. the solos are a little insane, but the motion of the songs are forceful and deliberate. "warmaster" is not as raw as "realm of chaos" but it is second only to their masterpiece "the 4th crusade" which warmaster emulates on a song to song basis. and i see nothing wrong with that... stay true to your roots and your fans will love you for it. this is great, early 90's death metal. i recommend buying warmaster first, just so you will be in complete awe when you buy the 4th crusade and hear it's beauty.

Underrated Death Metal Masterpiece,
By Orphan of Sickness (253) - See all my reviews
This review is from: War Master (Audio CD)
Bolt Thrower is a band that I believe deserved a bunch more credit for what they have done over the past almost 20 years. With their 3rd album, "Warmaster", the band further develops their sound and steers more towards an epic direction. "Realm of Chaos", their sophomore album, was an album that focused more on grindcore than death metal. This is where the band breaks through and assaults.
The vocals really tend to stand out, as they are dark, but not the infamous "Cookie Monster" growl. And with the recruitment of a talented female bassist and amazing guitars and blastbeats, this is something I can't really describe. Check it out for yourself. If you enjoy bands like Obituary and Pestilence, buy this.

One of the best Metal records ever,
By
This review is from: War Master (Audio CD)
Bolt Thrower is not well known at all, as you can see from only 10 or 11 reviews, yet they might be the best kept secret of Death (or Doom Metal) that is around. I consider them to be one of the Heavist bands ever, and even though their second effort "Realm of Chaos" is faster then the speed of light, they have slowed it down yet the music is so full of energy with bone crunching guitar riffs, and excellent Drum work. Out of all BT albums, I belive War Master to be the best (second to For Victory) If you love Heavy Music, you are really missing out on one of my favorite Metal Bands. Check this out if ya dare..ENJOY

The third albulm from Bolt Thrower just Brutal. Jo Bench does a superb job wth the bass. the guitars but new meaning to the term dual Guitarist! Andy Whale pounds the percussion in like a Cannon Barage and the vocal the low deep Gurgle done nicely in that old school grind core style. like so many other bands of that era. this albulm redefines the melodice brutal heavy side of Metal. Dark and brutal. War Master is a superb produced Peice. A must have for Guitar and or Death Metal Fans!!!

CD includes one additional track not originally on the cassette release. Good to see this is available on CD. Would have ranked as 5 stars if it was a re-mastered release. This would be a highly recommended purchase if you liked Napalm Death - Diatribes/Fear Emptiness Dispair.
