In a fusion of art and history, portrayed in accurate detail, complete with combatant's personal insights, War in Pacific Skies covers the most famous air engagements in WWII's Pacific Theater of Operation. Full color maps, previously unpublished photographs, original artwork and personal accounts visually and mentally enliven the air battles at Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, Midway, Guam, Tinian, the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and more. Climb in to the cockpit of America's famous Pacific war birds: the P-38 which carried Richard Bong to his 40 kills, the obsolete Curtiss Hawk piloted by Harry Brown who accounted for the only American airborne response at Pearl Harbor and join Colonel Tibitts in the "Enola Gay" as the B-29 Superfortress makes its final approach on Hiroshima.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning artwork, December 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: War in Pacific Skies (Hardcover)
The best painters are capable of capturing events with more realism and excitement than any photograph or movie ever could. Thanks to the great Jack Fellows, War in Pacific Skies is more of an adrenaline rush than any Hollywood movie on the subject. You can stare at a single one of his paintings for practically an hour and feel transported back in time to the event it portrays. The text is also rich with historical detail, but buy this one for the paintings. First rate!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy !, January 30, 2008
This review is from: War in Pacific Skies (Hardcover)
A large selection of stunning paintings by Jack Fellows.
I like his style, very dynamic and close to Michael Turner's art.
Book is well printed and the not-so-often seen photos are a nice bonus.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice art, nothing new, January 31, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: War in Pacific Skies (Hardcover)
The description somewhat misrepresents the contents of the book. It is PRIMARILY a vehicle to present Fellows artwork, wrapped in some uninspired text and often-seen photographs. I could not find anywhere the "personal insights" referenced. If you like Fellows art and buy the book for that ALONE you will like it. The text is boring and rehashes common ground with nothing new or "insightful".
