5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, Fast Paced, AND Well Written!
This is a gritty, gripping, fast paced book - I found it impossible to put down! The setting is post cold war and effectively captures the scenario of rebel terrorists gaining control of a nuclear submarine. The book is rich in detail, demonstrating real knowledge of submarine operations as well as accurately depicting the politics and physical environment. The writing...

The plot is an interesting one but stretches the boundaries of reality.
I would have rated this read a '3', but unfortunately the translation from the original to the Kindle version leaves a lot to be desired. Clearly the formatting of the original did not transfer correctly, e.g. paragraphs of dialog between a group of people transition to dialog between a...

The writing is superb; description never slows down the pace and the characters are multi-dimensional. I particularly appreciated that even the "bad guys" were fully developed human characters - nothing cardboard or plastic here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tautly paced thriller, December 4, 2004

The authentic feel (and smell!) of submarine warfare, an ingenious terrorist plot, believable characters and a strong dose of realpolitik smoothly woven into a great story. Comparable to Clancy without being imitative. Definately a great read!

This is an engaging, fast paced, and intriguingly plotted adventure story. The author knows his subject and his setting; the details he includes add to the suspense without ever slowing down the plot. The book is well written. You won't be able to put this one down!

The plot is an interesting one but stretches the boundaries of reality.
I would have rated this read a '3', but unfortunately the translation from the original to the Kindle version leaves a lot to be desired. Clearly the formatting of the original did not transfer correctly, e.g. paragraphs of dialog between a group of people transition to dialog between a different group without paragraph, section or chapter breaks leaving the reader confused (at least in my case) until I re-read a few times. In some cases, I was left with the impression that pages or paragraphs were missing. Spelling errors are fairly common as well.
It's nevertheless a fun read.

An exciting submarine chase with all the tension and character interaction that one could hope for plus human relationships that make it real. Exciting, descriptive, couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read "Red Shark" and the further adventures of Jake Scott by this author.
