Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

By the time readers get through the first several chapters of this exciting thriller set in 1939 Argentina, they will wonder how Kaplan ( Scorpion ) is going to keep up the pace. By that point, there are several violent killings, a brutal live-sex show, plus more personal and romantic couplings, a wild car chase through the streets of Buenos Aires and enough cryptic references to past events to fill a dozen espionage novels. But Kaplan has a trick up his sleeve; his tale of an American spy trying desperately to uncover a Nazi secret that may change the course of WW II is just one of the stories he has to tell. Deftly dropping back some 75 years he unfolds--in regular flashbacks--an account of the mysterious man who was a dominant force in Argentinean history and whose personal vendetta still influences events years after his death. This story, in fact, is the true heart of the novel. In the end, revenge for a decades-old injustice, rather than the colliding forces of a war-torn world, leads to the horrifying conclusion of this smashing, sexy and unforgettable read.

From Library Journal

In September 1939 it is difficult to tell which inhabitants of Buenos Aires are neutral and which have already chosen sides. While the war escalates in Europe, U.S. agent Charles Stewart arrives in Argentina to protect a pro-Allies source--The Raven. Carefully moving through the morass of political plotting, upper-crust dalliance, family feuds, and espionage enterprises, Stewart barely eludes death and disaster as he unravels a complex story of hatred and revenge dating back to the slums of Victorian England. Kaplan successfully blends sex, suspense, sustained action, an exotic location, and historic plausibility. This is a superior thriller that delivers a memorable and entertaining reading experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars War of the Raven, March 30, 2000
By A Customer
The War of the Raven is an excellent book. The plot was a thrilling and suspensefull. The plot twisted just about every time I turned the page. It was great, I've read it a few times and I find new things every time. A great World War novel in its own odd respect focusing in on a major event, but more importantly the small details around it that made it happen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Then Average, April 7, 2002

This review is from: War of the Raven (Paperback)
This was a good effort by this author. I found the historical representation correct in the facts. The plot was good and focused. The story moves along and there are some characters that you have no problem visualizing. This book does not break into anything new and is an above average entry into this type of story. Overall a better then average book in a crowded field.
